DOS (7.1) should be fine. I've run MPXPLAY on FreeDOS using a KT400, AXP 1700+ setup. Native sound support. Dos games will be more problematic, of course, mostly due to PCI only audio.

The sickly K5 has found a new home with ODwilly, posted today, hopefully he can breath new life into it. So no longer available. I'd love to see a 4GHz version of the Pentium Classic, complete with the necessary logic to work perfectly on a regular Socket 7 board. Pointless? Sure. Idiotic? Probably. Perfect for the 25th anniversary of the Pentium? All of my yes.

Perhaps a BIOS hack is needed to fully utilise write allocate on the K5, or perhaps some minor hardware mode? Or maybe it just doesn't do much for the K5...

OK I've tested Quake. It also gets slightly slower. In both DOS and Windows. I also tried using the Powerleap utility instead of K5.sys.

Is there a thing for setting memory regions, or is that only a Cyrix tweak - I'm thinking maybe the graphics memory might be getting tangled up with the write allocate

gerwin -- I just noticed this with my K6-3+ system (FIC VA-503+). I have a Vortex 2 in the system that I use for its wavetable header in DOS. When I load the DOS driver, AU30DOS.COM, the system hangs after I start SETMUL. If I don't load the driver, everything works normally.

Looks like a great system! I've been working on an XP powerhouse as well, featuring a Phenom ii x4 945, 4gb ddr2, and an hd4850. Looking forward to watching your video on the build!
