It's a good CPU for retro computing, as it can be slowed down to the level of a 386DX using cache disabling and multiplier changes. The K6-III+ and K6-2+ can do this in software, so grab one of those CPUs instead if you can. I probably wouldn't bother spending much extra for the K6-III over the K6-2 …

Depends on what you want to run on it, and what games you want to play on it. Windows 9x: A faster processor doesn't hurt. Depending on the games, it might even be too slow. With appropriate slotkets that can overvolt, the Ezra-T can overclock into the 1300-1400 MHz range. Stock is around 1.4v, and around 1.65v, these CPUs overclock with adequate cooling. Still significantly slower than Nehemiahs, but far more flexible in the right board.

You did not gave any information about your actual Conner drive, however I try to give some advice: In case you have a CFA170A or the same series it is a difference if you pair conner drives or mixed vendors. That might be helpful. However, mine is model CP30174E. I actually looked up the jumper settings of this model on the same site, but if it does have a similar jumper (I haven't really looked that close), then I'll give it a try. Alternatively, I can just try another hard drive.

What about booting the machine from floppy and seeing if you can get the CD drive to work without the Conner HD attached? That would isolate it to the HD if it works.
