Some of the switches I recall when setting up one system were for wait-states and multiplier. This lets me run one at 3x50mhz instead of 4x33mhz with two VLB cards (a TekRam 690CD and an S3 805).

I have some 5.25” floppy drives lying around. I think I will add one to this computer as I just want it for playing DOS games. UPDATE: works great.

There are rare chips that will do more then "standard" 160Mhz. I have one stable at 180 and it also POSTs at 200.

They aren't that different in terms of overclocking. Both will require sufficient cooling to work stable at 180-200 Mhz.

Yes, from what I have read I don’t see much of a performance boost @180mhz. Over 160mhz. And at 160mhz it is much more stable.

I'm running one @150mhz stabilly for several years with a P4 heatsink thermal epoxy 'd on it. Solid as a rock. Going >150mhz is diminishing returns given ram speed on my board @3x50mhz.

What are your wait states for the memory and cache? With 4x40 you can have them at lowest possible.

I know this thread is a few weeks old, but for anyone still running XP, there is such a thing as Microsoft EMET. Also available for Win7. Somehow I never saw all the "XP is unsafe, don't go online" scaremongers mention that tool.

Ok, according to wiki the SiS 530 can cache up to 256MB ram so that is not the problem... That chart is quite telling. Perhaps I'm expecting too much, it might be time to replace with a Pentium 2 or Pentium 3 system, maybe P3 @ 1000Mhz.
