My 6100/66 is hybrid. It has 66Mhz PPC and 486/66 Dos in one machine. So no chance of getting a g3 update in that machine.
it's simply not compatible with the 486/66 in the PDS slot. More 6100/DOS on LGR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UclHrIIaYA

btw. the 486 card has a real SB with a real OPL3 ! https://www.flickr.com/photos/94839221@N05/26 … 57665671196304/
to get an impression I made a (sorry for the bad image-quality) video of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39yxfxbqda8
(I also added linux/ppc on that machine lately)

You could always remove the DOS compatibility card and put a G3 or G4 accelerator card in there.

yes but not both at the same time and because the 6100 uses onboard-gfx shared with memory,
it's better to go with g3/g4 and hardware-acc-gfx. beside that it's a really good comparision because both systems have 66Mhz. You can easily compare PPC against X86. 😀 In short: it fits better if you like both os and do not have enough space for two machines...

That's what I thought, you'd probably like what I've been posting in the retro OS/software purchases thread!

Just got my 6100 out yesterday, why do I have 4 DOS compatibility cards for it and only one PDS slot...

I failed to compile resource_dasm in a Fedora Linux VM though, so I haven't had success yet. I want to listen to the Descent Mac Shareware audio tracks.

As a matter of fact, I think the music from the Descent II Mac demo could be interesting too.

Because the cd-drive in my g4-cube does not eject cd's properly, I started to write some toast-images of my original games.
To bad I run into the same problems within win9x and so I can not hear red-book audio from the mounted image 🙁 that's really bad.

I tested this with tombraider gold. I probably will never get red-book audio from mounted images 🙁

I don't think that I can repair the CD-Rom in my G4-Cube.

My entry for this thread is Archon, which I played on a Mac Plus back in the day. The higher res graphics and bleeding edge fast twitch animations made it superior to the C64 version my cousins had and I assumed others. Those unicorns and Basilisks man, deadly things of wonder.

It used to not be available for emulators when I first started using them for macs around 2003, but a working version was provided around 2011

Pegasus Prime is listed but it's a remake and really has nothing in comparison to the original game and ironically the PC release (on steam) is the better version due to content being re-added that was omitted from the mac release.

That said, The Journeman Project/The Journeyman Project Turbo! plays better on the mac due to various game and engine tweaks (mostly QuickDraw transitions) that were unavailable in the Windows release.

There are CD and DVD versions of the game.

i placed mac version on the list as i thought it doesn't have black horizontal stripes between every second line during movies. but if pc dvd version doesn't have this problem too the game shouldn't be on the list.

Civ2 is basically the same on both, but Civ1 is a world apart. The sprites are higher quality and the UI uses the standard Mac OS interface, so it scales nicely on higher res monitors (a lot of older Mac games did this, especially strategy games). On a more modern monitor you can pretty much see the entire map on screen at once. Managing your saves is easier because you can have 31 character file names, sort them in the Finder and launch them by double clicking the save files directly.

You might not think much of that, but back when I did a retrospective of the Civ series in the Ars Technica forums (not the crap ripoff posted on the front page by one of the staff) in the lead up to the release of Civ 5, I used the Windows version and the 8.3 filenames were a total nightmare compared to playing it my childhood. The Mac version's default save filenames have a structure of 2-4 letters indicating difficulty setting, your leader's name, and 6 characters for for the ingame date. The Windows version gives you 2 letters for leader name, 6 characters for date and a useless extension. Even playing on Vista enforce the 8.3 names. It makes it near impossible to keep your saves in any sort of order without making a separate subfolder for every game. Plus you had to load your saves via the ingame Windows 3.1 style dialog box. The Windows version does at least have the Mac version's other improvements and thus is superior to the DOS version.

Here's a screenshot of the Mac version from Moby.

If you allocate it more RAM you can drag that map window out to fully cover a 1920x1200 display. It's fantastic.

Only downside is there's less music, but what there is is high quality.

win for comparition

I know a game: Sega Superstars Tennis... it was never ported to PC, but did come to Mac! I'm still a bit bitter about it 😁

My PC spec: Win10 64bit, i7-4970K (not overclocked), KFA2 GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, Creative Soundblaster ZXr, 16GB RAM, Asus Z97-A motherboard, NZXT 410 case, ROG Swift GSYNC monitor

It would be really nice to kept games list in first post in in some online sheet and to all of them add 1 sentence why it should be better than on PC or other platforms.

Im old goal oriented goatman, i care about facts and freedom, not about egos+prejudices. Hoarding=sickness. If you want respect, gain it by your behavior. I hate stupid SW limits, SW=virtual world, everything should be possible if you have enough raw HW.
