..Can it be done? by which i mean, I'm assuming it can, (through Darwin perhaps..) but I don't know how, and...i...want you...to tell me...how..
I just want to get through broodwar, which i never managed to finish, before our lord SCII comes out... That, and it's class.
Is it too recent to run on DOSBox?...

Will it run within MacOS X, at least on an Intel-based Mac?

Reading these sys req, I think not, unless you're running it within a Mac emulator like Basilisk II or Sheepshaver

Maybe within the Classic Environment, if available...

Blizzard provides an OSX-compatible installer for Starcraft which works fine on Intel Macs thanks to Rosetta. If you have a somewhat recent Battle Chest version of Starcraft, this program is already on your CDs. Otherwise, you can download it via a link on this page.

Dr. Riptide, Thank you. The pack I have is a two cd SC/broodwar set, and I'm fairly certain the cd offloads both mac and pc versions. Its just the OS according to the pop up.

Actually, on the basis that it'll give both mac and pc versions, does that mean that macs and pc's will register different files visible on the cd?...

You're right; both Mac and PC versions of the games are on those discs. Macs and PCs will both show the same data files, but different executables and different installers; Windows won't see the Mac installer, and MacOS won't see the Windows installer. Actually, all Blizzard games since Starcraft have this same feature; Blizzard mastered cross-platform game development years ago. Since you have that particular version, you should see both Classic and OSX installers when you put either disc into a Mac.

No, all i see is a reeeallly old pixelated installer icon and a couple of other odd files, none of which turned out to be for OSX...
Thanks to Herr Riptide, its all gravy though: I got it working. I got it working so well, in fact, that i had to delete the image i burned, and ask a friend to hide the Actual disks, in case i let the world fall into ruin.
You've got to love Blizzard for taking care of things on the multiplatform front; it's such a handy touch, no hunting down specialist stores or stocks.

My next beef is the fact that starcraft mapedit wont work, even with the carbon update installer thing. I'm not really that pushed, but i'd be interested to know if anyone has any hints on that..

I never tried the editor on my Mac, so I can't help you there (although I've read that there simply is no way to get it to work on OS X unless you can use Classic). I do know of a third-party editor called StarFire that you might want to check out.
