I mentioned this in another thread, but was told to ask advice here. I've found the shareware version of an old game I played on a MAC somewhere around 1989. I'd like to be able to run it again but don't know where to start. I've found a .01p file as well as a .01p.rsrc file. I'm able to run the .01p file in an emulator but it's obviously missing hte resources. From what I can tell, the .rsrc file is an archive of a RSRC folder that contains all of the resources, but I have no clue how to extract it or apply it. I've tried the latest Basilisk but I can't get it to run on Basilisk. I've heard SheepShaver could do it, but it's fairly niche and trying to follow guides thus far has been unsuccessful.

Has anyone experience in 01p and 01p.rsrc files and getting them working on modern devices?

That is meant for basilisk ii /sheep shaver, in the 'shared folder'.

AKA 'apple double'

https://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11391

Hfv explorer has 'limited support' for apple double, but can also do raw copy of just resource fork, or just data fork.

So I have to share it within Basilisk then run a series of commands to extract it and it should work?

place both files into a folder.

Tell Basilisk / sheep shaver, that this is the "Unix Root" folder.
https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/basiliskii_linux_setup

Copy the file out of the share into the emulated mac's HFV.

should be similar with windows; but still gets called "unix"

OK I'll try to goof around with a Basilisk environment this weekend. It's been a minute, but we'll see how I do!

I got Basilisk II working and booting and am able to get the 01p and rsrc onto the desktop. Do I need to install hypercard? I found a version and tried opening a stack, but it won't see hte 01p file no matter where I put it. I also don't have the Unix Root option as this is on Windows. When I brute force try to run the 01p file it won't open saying "the application program that created it could not be found. Could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators." I'm sure I'm doing many things wrong here...

Looks like the recent versions call it "Enable MyComputer on your Mac", per this emaculation how-to.

https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/basilisk_ii_setup

Instead of a much more friendly folder path (like on linux builds), it wants a list of allowed drive letters to access. (Bleh!)

Oh well. Just put it on a drive then tell basilisk II that it is allowed to access it via that feature. If it's working, then it should see a *SINGLE* file (not TWO files) inside the emulated Mac.

That's what I'm saying, I don't think it's working. I can certainly pair the drive and access any file on my host PC, but there's not a single folder where programs are just active. I don't see how to run the software at all and hypercard doesn't seem to recognize it

here, post the files here, and I will try to convince HFVExplorer to combine them inside a 1.44mb HFV floppy image for you.

Thanks, let me know if this at all works haha!

I have mixed news.

On the plus side: I successfully re-attached the resource fork from the provided copy.
On the negative side: It appears the resource fork/ data fork data is corrupted somehow.

Attached it an HFV diskette image, which contains the reconnected file, with the filetype and app creator tags fixed.

I can tell you from forensic investigation that this stack was created with OpenStack
https://info-mac.org/viewtopic.php?t=2420

Aside from that, I can't help you. HyperCard 2.4 gives filesystem error -50 when trying to open this stack. It DOES however, successfully show the icon for the stack in the preview when you try to open it manually with hypercard, showing that the resource data did get re-attached.

hypercard.hfv.zip

So sounds like I won't be able to run it as it stands? Dang. I've never heard of OpenStack, is it a similar app I can install in Basilisk or am I way off base here?

It looks like it adds multimedia extensions to hypercard. Can't tell you more.

Any chance it would run in the hypercard simulator if I make it a sit, dsk, or any other accepted file?

I don't really have any other thoughts or input here, it may be a lost cause. Ironic that I'm spending all this time to play a game from 30+ years ago that probably wasn't very good and I'll only play for a couple minutes!
