Although I realize that this thread was bumped by an overly enthusiastic ElectricMonk... (calm down, man! 😀 ) I will take the opportunity to add some relevance.

. MAME just today received yet another chihiro.c update. Changelog says what's new. It will be in MAME 0.154 unless you want to compile from SVN to give it a spin.

*SQUEAL!!!!!!* You just made my day! 😀

I can't wait to play Outrun 2:Coast to Coast (it's no so great on PS2...)

Now if they can get more Cave shooters working in MAME, I think I could die a happy man!

/Offtopic, but is there an area we can talk about building MAME cabinets, or refurbing the moving sega games? Or is that verboten?

Geez. Where did I say that the game was playable? It makes it through attract mode. You need state of the art hardware, overclocked. Accuracy on NV2A is still very much WIP. Audio is still missing. Network is still missing. Hell, I haven't even tested the new patch - I can't, I don't have the hardware.

Hopefully you're just THAT overjoyed to see a few more WIP screens at horrible framerate and inaccurate graphics. Don't expect a revolution, but it may indeed be better. I'm awaiting someone on the dev. team with heavy iron to make a WIP video/screenshots.

Honestly, it's not forbidden per se. You just may find more willing participants/readers elsewhere.

VOGONS has had an Arcade emulation section for over a decade (and at one point had to be merged with console emulation because it was so anemic, had too few posts and looked so sad, and all the PC gamers seemed to think it kinda pointless.)

I actually find it embarrassing, speaking as both a VOGONS founding member/moderator since July 2002 and as a quasi-active MAME development team member since September 2000. I think Snover added this subforum here on my request in the planning stages, but it may indeed have been his initiative. (Only DosFreak may know...)

I'd honestly recommend a different forum for "building MAME cabinets, or refurbing the moving Sega games", like BYOAC forums (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php) and KLOV forums (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/) and the like. My other home is the MAMEWorld forums at (http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?Cat= ) but it's, ah, an acquired taste. (MAME itself has no and desires no official forums.)

However, if people want to talk about it on VOGONS, I won't stop them. There just isn't an exact appropriate subforum at this time, so maybe file it in Milliways - not in the Console & Arcade Emulation subforum.

You didn't have to. I'm just excited progress is being made! 😀 I'm also excited that Model 2 pretty much works, and progress is being made on Model 3.

OK. I was just curious. I've been wanting to collect PCBs, and some of the novel "moving cabinets" I never got to try. But I'll keep it elsewhere. Thanks for the heads up! 😀

And thanks to Haze, here's video of the new improvements in MAME SVN rev 31237. Video/screenshots of WIP emulation will always be interesting to me. 😁

Warning: there's some flashing colors that start around 0:26 which may trigger some epileptics. I assume it's background colors for scenes in the attract mode for which we're not yet rendering any 3D.

This is an -aviwrite recording of OutRun2 in MAME with Samuele Zannoli's latest update.

The actual emulation runs at *2*% speed, so actually recording this video took a long time, I recorded it so people can see the new progress without having to sit through almost an hour of flashing screens.

The current emulation can't be coined up, has no 3D, no sound, and hardlocks after displaying the 8th placed high score table (I quit the recording a little before then)

Chihiro is arcade hardware based on the original XBOX.

That's 2% full framerate on fairly recent HW.

For what it's worth, the xqemu work that blueshogun96 is advertising is just as impressive and also should be running at faster speeds. Though that's not Chihiro but simply original XBox (at the moment?)

Think Chihiro would run regular Xbox games? Same hardware, just double the RAM, right? Or is it like Dreamcast vs Naomi 1/2, where never the twain shall meet?

I ask, because I have my favorite Xbox original games backed up on my HDD. I just have been too lazy to track down an original working Xbox, and an original mode chip for it. I had hopes for the project that merely converted the Xbox executables to valid Windows executables, but that projects been on hold forever.

According to this article, the Chihiro may use a slightly earlier chipset revision than the Xbox itself, though no sources are cited. http://segaretro.org/Sega_Chihiro

Arcade forum was locked and combined into Console & Arcade back in 2008 after we talked about how little it wasn't being used.

I think I may be the one to blame for suggesting the Arcade forum 🙁

Doesn't it also have double the RAM, compared to the Xbox original specs? I remember Sumo Digital being praised for pulling off the Xbox 1 conversion incredibly well, even though it lacked 64MB Ram that Chihiro did. Kind of like how Naomi had extra RAM, and in the case of Naomi 2, I believe it including either higher speed PVR2 GFX chips, or even an extra GFX chip.

I just found this:

This means Xenia (an Xbox emulator) is in progress!

People who use Norton Antivirus should shame themselves for being so poor and unable to afford a real antivirus. It keeps recognizing everything as Suspicious.Cloud and WS.Reputation.1. Just use MSE or better.

No, that means Xenia an XBox360 emulator is in progress. We are still waiting on XBox emulation progress.

The scary thing is, we're probably going to see a decent emulator for the 360 before we see one for the OG. 😳 I wonder what kind of a monster system Xenia requires.
