VirtualBox
Windows 2000 - Officially v1.6.6 is the last version to work with Windows 2000 BUT you can use VirtualBox v2.0.4 just fine as long as you modify the installer and download some modified files from BlackWingcats website.
Windows XP+ - Currently v3.1 is the lastest and works fine.
Parallels Desktop 4
(Have not tested under Windows 2000 yet)
DOSBox 0.74
OTHER EMULATORS
QEMU (9x/NT4/2000+)
I've been a heavy user of the above emulators for the past decade. Whenever I have tried to use QEMU for any serious work (that I can do quite easily in the above emulators) I get frustrated and disappointed with QEMU. Frequent freezes, slowness, one build of QEMU will work...next version will not, etc etc. I recommend using the above emulators first and ONLY if your program does not work in those then try QEMU.
BOCHS
GUEST OS
Recommendations for the best emulators to use with the below OS's as your GUEST.
Note that it's really a tossup between VPC and Vmware for the below OS's.
VPC has the edge as far as sound and video but Vmware offers more features, speed and a more updated VM. Really you can't go wrong with either.
DOS/Windows 3.x GAMING ONLY

DOS/Windows 3.x/Windows 9x
Virtual PC 2007 or Virtual PC 2004
Vmware Player/Workstation

Vmware Workstation/Fusion
Linux
Vmware Player/Workstation
VirtualBox
VirtualPC 2007
Parallels Desktop
INFO
I recommend using Vmware Player/Workstation primarily since the newer versions of Vmware can create VM's that are backwards compatible with the older versions and you can upgrade the older versions to the new quite easily. Also Vmware Workstation 4.53 and above have more features and is more updated than VPC.
That being said there will be some cases that VPC will be needed due to it emulating an S3 video card and an Soundblaster 16 which Vmware does not.
