Hey all,

I have windows xp.
when I try running duke nukem 3d thru the latest version of VDMSound and try to set up my sound card I get the message "playback failed, possibly due to an invalid or conflicting IRQ". My IRQ is usually set to 5. I tried changing it to all the other options and got the same message. However, I run setup without VDMSound and set the IRQ to 5, and it works, although very badly. Any ideas on what I could do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

VDMSound doesn't actually use an IRQ (it's all emulated). I believe it defaults to IRQ7, however, so try using that IRQ first.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Don't forget that "Duke Nukem 3D" is a Build game so you'll need all three main parts of VDMSound.

VDMSound v2.04 at http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/dow … load/index.html
Install that, then copy the files from the 2.04 Update zipfile at
http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net/files/
on top of the original files (wherever you installed them).

Then download and install the GUI Launcher VDMSLaunchPad.v1.0.0.7, also at :
http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net/files/

Log off, Log on and you should be ready to go.

(BTW, that "playback failed, possibly due to an invalid or conflicting IRQ" is the setup program "guessing" at what's wrong. It doesn't actually know.)

Fortunately for you, under XP, you don't need to run CLI2NOP.

Yes, it’s my fault.
