I use VDMSound because DOSBox runs choppy on my machine. It's sad to see that VDMSound is dying away. But anyway, on to my request. Wolf3D doesn't seem to recognize VDMS as a SBPro device and therefore plays everything in mono at full volume (no proximity volume adjustments). Is there any way to fix this?

Processor: Athlon XP 2600+ at 2133MHz
Version: VDMSound 2.1.0 (and 2.0.4 for that matter)

I have tried all DSP versions.

Here's the debug log of the SB events:

Anyone have any suggestions?

nope. Thought it had sb16 support. but I might be mistaken.
Probably some one more knowlegdable then me will answer the question (although wolf3d should run allright on your pc in dosbox as you have a fast pc)

I don't think Wolf3D has any special support for SB16, but I am pretty sure it will play sounds in stereo (based on where they are coming from in the game) on a SB Pro or SB 16.

I should also mention that Wolf3D runs fine on a high-end 286 or a low-end 386, so it shouldn't take too much horsepower to run in DOSBox.

You're right about Wolf3D and it's stereo sounds. It's just that with VDMSound, Wolf3D's sounds are always full volume and always in mono.

Under DOSBox, I could never get Wolf3D (or rather a mod I'm making based on its code) to run above 8 FPS, whereas I get the max (70) under XP DOS and VDMSound. The mod It is also very playable (~50 FPS) on an 9 year old Win95 machine (exact specs unknown to me.. it's a friend's machine).

I've yet to test it again with the latest DOSBox, so maybe I can get it tweaked a bit better this time around.
