Anyone have had any luck running this game under w2k or wxp? All I get is sounds from intro video and blank screen until it crashes to desktop after the video is over.

The game uses SVGA 640x480x256 so that could be the problem.

There's another thread in the DOS forum about X-Com Apocalypse. Nicht plus a few others spent a day or two with me trying to get it working. The final result was the same as yours.
