Hi.
I used to use a game maker called Div games studio...
It is grat but I cannot use it anymore as I have bought a new PC which has XP.
I was wondering if I would be able to use it if I installed this programme?

P.S.
Div is at div-arena.com

What kind of error(s) is the game giving?

Uh...
Well...
I bought the prog and it works...
But not under XP as XP doesn't run DOS programmes...
A friend reccomended this prog...
It sounded like a better alternative to partitioning my HDD and installing DOS but I don't know if it will run my prog as most of the people I know who use it use it just for games.

Hmmm, have you actually tried to run the program under XP? Many people say that "XP won't run DOS program", which is 90% false. I.e. XP (and 2k and NT) will run most DOS programs, although without sound/VESA (which is where VDMSound comes in).

Cheers,
V.

I did try...
Didn't work...
I know it's XP coz my PC's new(got it for my 17th which was on 28\6).
Specs are:
Pentium( I got a 950 Duron)
MS DOS(I have XP)
Win 95/98(I have XP)
16MB RAM(I have 128)
50MB HDD(got more than enough)
CD-ROM(CDRW)
16BIT Sound card(yeah yeah)

The programme won't run...
I want to get it working on my new PC as the one I was using has ME which causes faults to occur and you have to mess about to get it working(I don't want to screw it up because it isn't mine).

Good. Then what error message do you get, or what happens (i.e. why doesn't it work? does it freeze? crash? give an error message and exit?)

You don't know how many people want to run this prog but can't without partitioning and installing DOS...

Just as the program starts (i.e. as soon as the window pops up), press Alt+Enter to go to full-screen. VESA is partially supported by NT/2k/XP in full-screen mode.

Note: Eventually DIV2 will be ported to Windows, but so far that hasn't happened yet.

DIV-Arena's homepage is here: http://www.div-arena.com

There are no trial downloads if Vlad wants to try it, you'd have to buy it or find a warez version. I tried it once, it was pretty good.

Well, that's what this guy wants to run! Perfect! Vlad, if you want, you can download the demo to test on your own.

Mate, there is no demo for the actual DIV Games system. I *did* run one of the demo GAMES, however, and it ran fine. So, anonymous friend, I'm not seeing any problem here.

Yes, it’s my fault.

I sent an email to the guys that make DIV Games Studio and got this message in response to my request to have them send me a copy of the studio for testing purposes after explaining what our anonymous friend said about it not working:

Hi Colin

As the developer of DIV Games studio, I can tell you that the current
Version will not function under windows 2000/XP. This is due to the removal
of DOS/VESA modes in favour of DirectX

However, in the very near future, a version of DIV will be available which
will run under all windows pc versions that have directx installed.

Best bet would be to sign up to the mailing list, that way when it is
released, you'll be one of the first to know!

I was royally confused by that. Does that mean that it uses DirectX now? If that's the case, than there's certainly no problem. If it still uses VESA in DOS, then it should run fine with VDMSound. I asked him to clarify that point, but from what he said, it looks like if there is a problem we're not going to be able to fix it because we're not going to be able to get a test copy.

Yes, it’s my fault.

He was referring to the removal of DOS/VESA modes from Windows 2000/XP, I understand that. So that means it uses VESA now.

If Mr. Unregistered provided us with, say, a game he was trying to run that was designed with DIV, then we might try it. But I believe I understand, then, that the GUI of DIV operates in VESA modes. Still, if you launch full-screen, it could work.

Too many unknowns.
