Hi all,
i am using windows ME in my computer and i read in the VDM main page that it doesn't support dos sound for ME or 98.
i want to know if there is any chance i might be able to actually make my card work in dos mode.Right now i am trying to make it work for my Favorite Lands of Lore so this is important.
thanks in advance

Soundcards generally come with DOS based drivers for Win9x/ME, sometimes these are installed automatically and will work in a DOS prompt without any additional work.

More likely they are sitting in some directory and you have to call some init program before it'll work.

If it's a soundblaster Live! card you may not have to do a thing, since I just installed Fragile Allegiance, and it ran without me touching a thing (under Win98) 😀
But then that specific game plays very nice under win2k as well, so you may get mixed results.

WinME already supports DOS audio, but it tries to hide it's DOS roots. Presuming you were referring to "Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos", have you tried just running it in it in WinME?

If you can't, your next step would be to re-enable the DOS level access in WinME. There are at least 3 unofficial patches for this:

Also, check out Axcel216's web site at:

If you get a 404 not found error, try later (site's been busy lately).

BTW, Axcel216 tends to use a lot of technical jargon, but just be patient and read carefully and you'll find huge amounts of info.
