I have 'Glidos' working with 'Tombraider 1' on my
3dfx 5500AGP video card in WinXP with sound:

1) Install 'VDMsound' first.

2) Install 'Glidos' and select 'VDMsound'.

3) Install 'Tomb1' using the 'TRInst.exe' provided by
'Glidos' author, (XP won't display the setup screen).

4) Replace the 'Glide2x.dll' in the 'Glidos' directory with
the one from my 3dfx video drivers for WinXP.

5) Raplace the 'Tomb.exe' with the 'Voodoo Rush' version,
(this is on my 'Tomb' CD).

6) Start 'Glidos' and 'tomb' and when the '3dfx' logo appears
DO NOT press the 'ESC' key.

After the logo disappears the movie screen goes BLACK!

Wait for the audio from the movie to begin and THEN press
the 'ESC' key.

You will need to do this for every movie since there is a black
screen every time they try to play.

NOTE: I will try removing the VESA item from the ini file later
to see if that solves the movie display problem.

I hope this helps anyone trying to run TR1 on a 3dfx 5500
using 'Glidos'...

I've had someone else try that with a different Voodoo card. All was well until they pressed escape, from within a level, to get the ring menu. Then Glidos crashed. Does the ring menu work for you?

As a matter of fact NO 😀

I have discovered that 'Glidos' crashes with a "Read Error"
at the end of a level and when I press the 'Esc' key for the
menu.

I was certain that it worked before.

After I got everything working I removed EVERYTHING and
started over, following my own instructions, to test my
method.

That is when the crashes appeared.

Although, it may also be that I just forget whether or not I
entered the menu ring after my first success.

I must say that the level plays flawlessly until the crash.

Could this be a sound issue, since the 'ambient' sound is
switched at each of these times?

-------------------------------
I also removed the VESA item from the ini file and found that
the order changed:

With VESA the 3dfx logo is first and then the movies
Without VESA the movies play first then the 3dfx logo

and the BLACK screen changed to vertical bars.

---------------------
Congratulations on the great progress that you have made
with this project. I can only hope that my 'Read Error' is a
simple fix for you; and doesn't keep you up too late 😀

thanks for the reply

I'm sorry, each of the above references to a 'Read Error'
are actually listed by 'Glidos' as a

-----------> 'Read Failure'

Sorry about any confusion 😀

Ah well you are in luck. There's another thread about replacing Glide2x.dll and driving Voodoo cards directly from Glidos. Somewhere in that the thread I've posted an alternative version of Glide2x.ovl (ovl note, not dll). If you use that then Glidos wont crash.
