In the last release of OpenGlide, I made some changes to get Sentinel Returns working, if anyone's interested.

The Red Baron stuff has forced me to make some changes that really wanted doing anyway, so its not such a bad thing.

Not sure where along the line Sentinel started working. I tried it before and there were lots of texture issues. Now it seems perfect (except sometimes the selection screen displays low). May have been the work for the sake of Redguard. Redguard really makes use of Glide.

I've never heard of this game. Could you point me to (or post) some screenshots?

*shock* It's a remake of the original Sentinel game that was made for Amiga and other systems of the time. No screenshots but check out the pics from the back of the box at MobyGames:

Amazing! (Never owned a 'Miggy, although I lusted after one and read about them and... and.... 😀 )

Paul, if you could take a look at POD some time, that would be my dream game to get going under GliDOS. Yes, I'm aware it has a D3D patch but there's certain features that are unavailable using that patch. 😀

Hm, time for me to look at my Glide Games/DOS Glide Games lists again...

------------

Further note: Paul, I recommended to Pete Bernert (author of many Playstation emulator graphical plugins) to look at your wrapper, I have a feeling he may email you about it as he has (to quote) "some ideas about a good texture caching when it comes to Glide Wrappers, I just never had the time to start a full-grown wrapper myself... but if GLIDos is as good as you promoting it (ehehe), I will surely take a look in the near future, and see if I can help to improve it."

😀

Hope he pulls Lewpy in on the action...

Ah texture caching. That's my biggest change to OpenGlide. Its near perfect now, and will be when I get the paletted texture stuff done. That's the one bit I don't need help with. 😀 It was Redgaurd that forced me to sort that out; it used to crash OpenGlide. Interestingly Redguard runs evoodoo out of virtual memory. Not sure why; do they never free OpenGL textures?

POD soundes interesting. Presumably Windows, not DOS. Have you tried the files off the Red Baron page?

Nice one Paul.

A few observations.

Fullscreen doesn't work, you just get a black screen and a lot of white lines.

It's phenomenally fast, infact it's too fast to play.
The Sentinel turns around way too fast, and you don't get a chance to even hyperspace.

And I still get the same problems I got when I first purchased the game, and thats the CD check problem. (Not your fault, Paul)

I can never get the game to see the original CD, in any OS. And every crack I've found doesn't work.

But the only way I've managed to play it is to use Daemon Tools.
A brilliant CD emulator that works on nearly any game.

Paul, if you fix POD, I'll have your baby 😉
This is the best image I could master, as all the capture programs just captured Black 🙁

"Fullscreen doesn't work"? Are you using the files from the RB page or Glidos? My copy is just a Windows program, so I'm just using the RB version of OpenGlide. I can't see a fullscreen setting anywhere.

I don't have the speed problem either. Wonder what that is?

Nor do I have the CD problem; but glad you have a solution.

As for having my baby: I have kids already, so I understand the full revulsion of that threat. 😁

Yep, I'm using your RB files, as The Sentinel is windows based.

When I say full screen doesn't work, it does, but I get just a black screen, loads of white lines, and I can hear the sound effects.

Yet, change the Openglide ini to window mode, and it works a treat. I'm not too worried about fullscreen, as one can always lower the screen resolution to match the window res.

The speed is insane, it moves just soo fast that you can't actually do any thinking in the game.

As an example, if you use "mouse look", the screen moves with the mouse at such speeds that it's hard to actually point in the direction you want to absorb.
I've even tried adding all sorts of graphic effects like 4x FSAA, Texture Sharpening, and 8x Anisotropic, to try and slow it down.

You have kids ? You poor sod. 😉
I got mates with kids and they are a real pain in the butt.
They totally exaust him every night, with their constant whining, running around, never getting tired, and getting the buggers to go to bed for some peace.

Yeah, although it was right on the borderline...

A few reviews of POD:

(Most of the screenshots are from software mode. Here's some nicer shots: http://thegw.com/archives/pod/shots.html)

To quote one review:

There's a bewildering variety of patches for POD, most of them specific to obsolete cards and none of them more recent than DirectX 5.0

See this: http://www.dlh.net/cgi-bin/dp.cgi?lang=eng&re … ps&sys=pc&cap=p

For that reason, to help in this experiment, I emailed a POD patch master, Redline of POD Underground fame. I hope he sees this...

For your purposes, you might try the 3dfx demo, get that working, then buy it or find a warez version of POD 1.0, then 2.0, etc. But I'm hoping Redline will post here...

Have you tried the files off the Red Baron page?

Naw, I don't own the game. Will the demo work okay?

What? POD works, are you saying?

Nope, he meant my question RE Red Baron 3D Demo.

And there's a demo I can download. 😁

Now it's my turn: Do you mean POD? Yes, yes there is... *hopes Paul or Craig gets it going*

Dynamic library for SST1 chip. Paul, if POD requires this file, um, what can be done about it? I know it requires the file for the install cheat, just not sure about the actual game running...

I'm working on getting it going.

But I will point out that those guides don't work.
They are mostly for getting POD working on a Voodoo2 card, and Openglide is more for a Voodoo1.

I have POD and POD Gold, with all the 3dfx extras, but it's not working.
Infact, none of the executables are working, including the software, and MMX versions.

It could be copy protection, I'm not sure.

Well, I tried emailing Redline for assistance - no response. I'll ask a few others.
