I'm keeping watch. Be interested to see how this goes. I think that's right about OpenGlide being more like voodoo1 than voodoo2. Although with DOS games it is often the voodoo2 version that works because it uses Glide2x.ovl rather than driving the hardware directly. I think Windows games always drive through the dll though.

sst1init.dll does sound worrying. Not sure what that is. Maybe some versions of Glide2x.dll load this dll. I'd be surprosed if the game used it directly, but it might I suppose.

I wonder if the sst1init.dll, initialises all the SST commands like

set SST_GRXCLK=90
set SST_FT_CLK_DEL=0x4
set SST_TF0_CLK_DEL=0x6
set SST_TF1_CLK_DEL=0x6
set SST_VIN_CLKDEL=0x1
set SST_VOUT_CLKDEL=0x0
set SST_TMUMEM_SIZE=2

These enabled a Voodoo2 to look like a Voodoo1.

I remember when I did some 3dfx emulation testing and when I tested the really old 3dfx demos (the ones that came out with the original Voodoo: Valley Of Ra, etc...).

The error I saw repeatedly was an ATB error "Couldn't detect the SST-1".

ATB apparently being 3Dfx's proprietary Arcade Toolbox (ATB), which was available for DOS and Win32.

Don't know if this means anything here or not...

...POD and ATB are unrelated AFAIK, so the commonality must be that driver.

Here's about the time it would be good to start contacting driver editors like the links I've shown you before, Paul.

...hmm...

ATB sounds quite interesting, Nicht. Another one for the research To-Do list.

...

I heard a rumor once about a game that actually scanned the PCI bus to detect 3dfx cards. Not sure how you could work around this.

Anyhow, all food for thought.

Oh, found this while I was surfing around, Nicht:

For the record, I think we should be able to get those 3dfx demos going under Glidos. Something to aim for. So further research into ATB is needed. 3dfx used to host it as part of their developer's site. I'll go hunt around.

Here's some starter info:
http://groups.google.com/groups?frame=right&t … 40news.3dfx.com

Interesting bit of news there, too:

(By the way, the very first Glide SDK that 3Dfx released end1996 or begin 1997, contained the full sourcecode of the library ! But don't ask me for it...)

Are we on the hunt for this too? Paul, Fabio?

Don't you mean employees? I bet he meant employees. He makes mistakes like that all the time, but it's really not his fault.

Newer SDKs... thought I'd link it, even though you all probably have all of these and then some.

Also, maybe you should try getting in contact with this guy:

Reid Campbell
GDB (General Dogs Body)
rcampbell@x3dfx.com

but again, you probably have tried (or are communicating with him) already.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Check this out: 3dfx as a corporate entity still exists, sorta:
http://investor.cnet.com/investor/quotes/quot … X.html?tag=qbox

Still would like to know whether we should try to find:
1. Arcade Toolbox
2. Glide sourcecode

For Craig: POD should work in Win2000/XP in software mode. This is all confusing...

Yeah. Did I ever tell you guys my horror story about me buying stock in three video card companies : nVidia, 3Dfx, and S3, and then my dad sold my nVidia stock only a month before it shot up 100 points when Microsoft announced they were going to be using their video cards in the X-Box? That was a pisser. Could've made a cool 00 on that one.

Still would like to know whether we should try to find:

If we were, it sure wouldn't be from the corporate entity formerly known as 3Dfx. Besides, can anyone say "court marshall"?

Yes, it’s my fault.

Huh?

Oh, I think you mean "lawsuit." Court martial's a military thing.

Dynamic library for SST1 chip. Paul, if POD requires this file, um, what can be done about it? I know it requires the file for the install cheat, just not sure about the actual game running...

Eureka!

ss1init.dll is not needed for POD to run, the install program just needs to SEE it so POD will install the 3dfx-format tracks and cars.
It can be added during the install and deleted afterwards. That's what I quoted before, I just didn't understand the how and why. It was a driver for the Voodoo1 and otherwise is not used by POD (unless you used a Voodoo1 card).

Sorry I was being stupid...
