Hi gemini,

When are you going review some more populair ms-dos games, and some nice fillers... Like the roland devices or so?

I always like to watch your shows.. And you have a good nice calm voice for a reviewer.. Nice to listen at. 😊

~ At least it can do black and white~

I'm going to go through this thread and clean up some of the flamebait/craziness.

That also sounds like diving through an Oblivion Gate. 🤣

No kidding. In fact, I just spent over 20 minutes checking boxes of posts to split out of this thread, and then my session timed out and the whole effort became a waste. Oh well.

Thanks! Though in-person, I tend to stall quite a bit when I'm expressing myself because it takes me much longer than the average person to figure out what I want to say and how I want to say it. ^_^;

That, and I tend to sound like a salesman. XD

As for "popular" DOS games, I think it can be a matter of opinion, but I like to do the more obscure stuff because for me, I find it's usually more interesting to see something that few people have ever commented on.

...I'll admit though, my view counts tend to favour the more popular games and the more obscure it is, the less hits it gets. :P

I do get around to popular stuff too. The last two non-fillers of the year will be relatively popular games. ;)

Also, I don't own any Roland sound devices, so I can't do a filler on them really. I did do one covering DOSBox sound support in general though: http://www.pixelships.com/adg/epf007.html

bassmididrv (the Windows MIDI driver based on the BASSMIDI software wavetable engine) is definitely nice. I hadn't been playing games with good MIDI music on my laptop because I have Roland synths connected to my desktop, but I've been playing new games on my desktop and old ones on my laptop. BASSMIDIDRV has given me decent MIDI on my laptop that I can finally use to play those games there 😀

Ancient DOS Games Episode 68 - Visual Star Trek is online!

I actually intended for this week's episode to be obscure, but not last week's. Hopefully the fact that next week's game is almost blatantly obvious makes up for having two obscure games in a row. ^_^;

Though it does perplex me why I can't find this game anywhere online except abandonware websites despite the fact that it's free. Seriously, this game is in two of my shareware collections and I first played it at a friend's place way back in 1993. Perhaps there's a reason but I dunno what it is.

This kinda marks two firsts for ADG as well. It's the first time I've covered a game released by an anonymous source, as well as the first time I've covered an incomplete game. I kinda wonder what other features the author had in store, especially considering it looked like there was going to be game saving. ;)

Gemini000: good episode 😀 I liked it 😀 episode 69... I doubt it has anything to do with the "position", but if it has, then I hold my hopes up for some leisure 😉 no I will not guess. But surprise me 😀 since I doubt it is a game with Summer of 69 in it, but oh well. I have no idea 😀 But honestly, I doubt it is Fuck Quest.

Ancient DOS Games Episode 69 - Leisure Suit Larry is online!

...and no, there's no mature content. This game is as immature as they get! ;D

Some people get the wrong idea that the Leisure Suit Larry games are porn, or X-rated, but they really aren't, at least, the first one, Land of the Lounge Lizards, isn't. There's no swearing, short of a blow-up doll there's no exposed breasts or other "parts", the sex scenes are censored by the game itself... Really, it's just adult humour from beginning to end and it's meant to be taken as non-seriously as possible. ;)

haha! I remember playing (or trying to play) the AGI version on our first PC when I was maybe 9 or so. My dad didn't mind giving me access to that floppy, probably because English isn't our native language, and he didn't think I'd understand much of what was going on anyway. Which was kinda true, since I never got too far in it, but it was one of the games that helped me pick up my English skillz early on. The convenience store conversation sure rings a bell 😁

as for the review itself: I don't know if there's a good way to review text-heavy games like this one with voice-overs. The spoken commentary and the on-screen text kinda battled each other for attention, if you know what I mean. Still, good stuff, and props for covering both the original and the VGA remake.

on another note, I like how all these game studios are cropping up these days with the explicit purpose of putting out remakes of old stuff and selling them with the "HD" buzzword - Replay Games, Overhaul Games, and other variations on that theme... could be a good thing though, haven't tried a single one of these myself yet.

Hehe, remember trying to answer the questions with a friend of mine just to see the game (VGA version). I'm pretty sure I started writing them down along with the answers in order to finally play the game. And then I just died by using the toilet hahahha

This is part of the reason why I don't cover text adventures. Going in to Leisure Suit Larry I didn't realize the game was as small as it was, so there was hardly any action I could show beyond the text boxes. I tried at least. ^_^;

HD is a buzzword, but it actually means something. It means completely overhauled and redrawn graphics in very high resolution so that they appear crisp and detailed on high-resolution displays.

I couldn't believe how blatant a ripoff this game was of Softporn Adventure. I had both games and the scripts are pretty much identical.

Not really a rip-off, more a remake with a new lead character. ;)

That was actually as good a review as I could hope for for an AGI game.

I never got around to playing any of the Larry games, as I was only really interested in Sierra's Space Quest and Quest for Glory series and some of their import and/or non-adventure games, so it was nice to see an overview of both the AGI and SCI1 versions.

Gemini000: Man, sometimes I surprise myself in guessing 😀
And wow I still remember alt x (also ctrl alt x too) as a passthrough, damn my mind is filled with awesome stuff 😀 that is the blessing of an eidetic memory 😀

Nice episode 😀 but if you ever happen to get an XXX game, that needs censoring, then try to have an uncensored version some where else. Such as sites, that has not so much of restriction , no I am not talking about a porn site (even though that would be fucking hilarious 🤣). But there is some other site , that some times that I see on reddit, which is more easy going with a mixture of films, some of them pornographic, some of them more "normal" stuff. I remember seeing Geert Wilders Fitna on that site long ago. (Something like 1 year + after the Danish crisis), where it still had the bomb in the turban Mohammed in it, whom Kurt Westergaard drew. Whom has been in a lot of turmoil and shit since then. Such as a case about terror and assault on him, and his grandson from a fucking nutter . And stuff like that.

Anyway, the site I saw the film on, I can sadly not remember the name of, except I have a sneaky suspicion, that it has something with "live" in its name, if I am not mistaken.

I'll leave that up to Gemini, if he wants to do something about that (deleting posts or removing any commenting about "censorship") he can just tell that here.

edit: oh and please don't use offensive words repetitively.
