I recently got a 1 TB Western Digital drive with money I got for Christmas. I have used Seagate for years, but with their recent firmware problems I wasn't wanting to take a chance. I have had WD drives in the past and had good luck with them.

The only downside is that a 2 TB drive is going to take a long, long time to format. My 1 TB took over 3 hours. I always do a full format on a new drive so that every sector is tested. Any later formats I just do a quick format, but the initial time I always do full.

When you put these things in a raid array the chances of another drive failing while you're restoring the array just keeps getting bigger. Scary 😀

Just use RAID 6 and have a good backup (ESATA External HD's for "quick" restore) and you should be good to go.

I have 6 1TB drives in my home server using RAID 5 but when I replace them all with 2TB drives I'll probably be going to RAID 6.
