Question; the fact that GOG can release those games for free is because they now own the rights to publish the games, but that doesn't imply that the games are to be considered freeware, right?

Right. You can only get them for free when you have an account with gog.

Thanks for the heads-up!

GOG has offered a couple of games for free in the past that they later started charging money for. I missed out on one or two of those.
