Basically, from what I understand, someone's been retooling the original game for months now, fixing bugs and adding minor features, and with various legal papers out of the way he's finally released the DOS version of this retooling, with a Windows version still in the works! :o

Now I have to decide whether or not to revisit the game on ADG now that the full game is free to download... I might just do that for my next filler, except my next filler isn't until mid-June...

Hmm...........

I remember watching your review of it Kris and being evil by playing the abandonware copy. This is great news, now I can play it and feel like I am playing it legitimately.

You should replace your abandonware copy with this one since it's more complete

and fyi Gemini000 - this isn't just "someone" but rather one of the original developers

There's even a different escape menu

There's also 'look mode' which is pretty much like the mouselook toggle in Duke3D. It can also pickup items from the crosshair, so this version of A&A has a more modern control scheme setup

Though trying to play it like I used to (keyboard only) i've noticed there's no run key and the turning speed is too fast. Also, the fade effect is slower.

I did before I posted here and I have to say it is great.

I guess it depends on the programming talent level and spare time of the people who're still interested in this game. ;)

Here's hoping for something like Zdoom for A&A in terms of backend (dynamic hor+ aspect correction, 2d scaling)

A polygonal renderer would be nice too, like some sort of Vavoom or Doomsday (But not as bad as either - Doomsday is a freaking TRAINWRECK stagnant since 2003)

A polygonal renderer would be very relevant for A&A because there's often a situation of picking up items off the floor 😀

Resurrecting this old thread rather than starting a new one. I noticed this game is now up to version 1.04, though it was released only 8 months after 1.0, at the end of 2013. Don't see any more activity since then. But there is a Windows installer now in addition to the DOS version.

Going to try it out on my real DOS machine soon.

Just a quick note to say version 1.04, built in 2013, works great in real DOS. 😀 Runs very smooth on my POD 200MMX.

And nice General MIDI soundtrack. Sound good on Dreamblaster S1.

I haven't tried the Win version yet. I just wanted to see how the DOSBox version worked in real DOS. Reply back if you try it.

There's no real advantage to use the Win version as of right now though (well, except for the fact you don't have to emulate it 😀 ), and the supposedly more moddable community edition doesn't work either.
