Way back in the days of VDMSound, SoundFX 2000 was a similar product with a rather high price tag attached to it.

Aye, I remember this. VDMSound was better IMO but I tried that, too. Great that they open sourced, not so great that they used this font 😉
I'm especially astonished because back then I thought they were greedy b***

What's interesting is that it touts "complete AWE32 emulation". If that's not an exaggeration, it's something that neither DOSBox nor VDMSound has, isn't it?

Correct and there is indeed EMU8000 source files in there.

On the GPL side, PCem has working AWE32 emulation BTW, and it requires a rom dump from your awe card to use.
