I see no reason why I can't advertise my blog here. Having written 122 blog entries, most of which devoted to vintage PCs and vintage gaming in some form or another, and making fairly regular posts, I am going to announce new ones here.

I especially I have spent a decent amount of time revising the website to make it easier to navigate and search. I have used a more appropriate color scheme, increased the size of the post area, and added appropriate background tiles. It is approaching Nerdly Pleasures 2.0, but I won't be satisfied until I have manageable labels for my posts.

Today's post, Weird Software : The Buick Dimensions 1992 Floppy Advertisement profiles an odd bit of PC software I happened to pick up a long time ago. (I'm avoiding using the term Oddware, since LGR uses it) It's really strange, and I tried to approach it in a light-hearted vein.

I'm surprised that your blog hasn't been referenced before now. It's a great resource, and I've learned a lot from it. Keep up the excellent work!

Yep, I'd definitely bookmark it. 😀

I've been reading your blog, and reading lots of text isn't my favourite, I prefer videos. So yea, well done!

Do you have any personal favorite posts?

In no particular order, I'm particularly proud of these posts :

1. All You Ever Wanted to Know about the Creative Music System , a.k.a. the Game Blaster :
http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2012/10/a … know-about.html

I tested all the games for that myself. It was alot of work, especially for some games figuring out the command line switches to enable the Game Blaster.

2. The NES and the Powerpak - An Oldie but Goodie
http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2013/08/t … but-goodie.html

At over 11,000 views, this post has more than double the views of the next-highest viewed blog entry. A truly authoritative entry, even though I say so myself.

3. Tutorial : Compiling DOSBox SVN with Screenshot, Video Capture and IPX/Modem Support in Windows
http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2014/03/t … x-svn-with.html

I felt so empowered when I accomplished this achievement since I had no previous compiling experience except for the limited tutorial in the DOSBox wiki.

4. The 8-bit Home Computer Bait and Switch
http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2013/11/t … and-switch.html

Popular enough that someone offered to translate it into Portuguese.

5. IBM PC Color Composite Graphics
http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2013/11/i … e-graphics.html

Another post with some real information on it. I cannot take all the credit for it, however, as it represents the findings of several members of the VOGONS and VCF forums.

6. Why CD Collections or Compilations Are Not Ideal for Vintage Computing
http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2012/09/w … ations-are.html

Needs a bit of a revision. While this entry is seldom viewed, I view it as a statement of personal philosophy that deserves support.

7. Tutorial : How to Get the Roland MT-32 working with DOS Games
http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2010/03/t … land-mt-32.html

Another old post that needs some updates, but this is one post people still come back to regularly.

That MT-32 article is being referenced way too many times in local forums by me 😁
An excellent blog GH, been reading that for quite some time now... I always thought there was a thread about it here, guess I was wrong...
keep it up!

Just throwing this out there in an attempt to be helpful - not meant to be to criticism. Regarding the new look:

- the background tiles are very 'loud', personally I'd add some transparency to tone them down a bit because they distract the eye.
- likewise the blue behind the text is quite a bold colour and makes reading the white text a little bit hard on the eyeballs.
- the 'newer posts / home / older posts' options are hard to see - I know they're there because I'm familiar with your blog, but newcomers might not notice them and miss out on all the old awesome.
- is it necessary to have a fixed width for the post area and header? I generally use a smaller window (for sneaky reading things at work purposes) and think that a percentage works better than fixed width. e.g. width="80%"

Again, just my 2 cents!

I agree with all of the above.

None the less, it's a great blog, and is now on my "daily check" list. 😀

I made a few cosmetic modifications, the background image doesn't display right for some stupid reason and didn't work.

New post is up. It contains my recollections of a demoparty I went to last Saturday. Watched some cool presentations, met some great folks, overcame an obstacle or two, voted on some cool compo submissions, and contributed some vintage hardware for a demo presentation. Read all about it here : http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2014/06/m … -report-on.html

Interesting. I'd been wondering what Ken Silverman's been up to these days.

I remember my family having one of those automotive disks for the Apple ][. I don't recall there being health info, but maybe it was there.

I read it sometimes! My only constructive criticism is that occasionally I see glaring typos/grammar issues. I suggest you run your posts through MS Word before posting, if possible and if this is a known issue for you. That said, generally I quite enjoy your super-analytic blog post style, and I had NO idea you were such a classic film buff! 😀
