Hi all!

I started a brand new YouTube channel which is https://www.youtube.com/user/philscomputerlab

Some of you also know about my website which is http://www.philscomputerlab.com

I learnt a lot from my past videos and want to redo a lot of them with better quality and more polish. A lot of my first videos use DOSBox, my new videos will all feature proper retro hardware 😀

Time is my biggest enemy. I have so many projects planned but so little time. Still, I usually manage to do at least a video every week, if not way more.

If the admins don't mind I would like to use this thread to keep people updated about new videos, website updates and so on.

To kick things off here are my first redone videos. Videos featuring Roland MIDI modules will all have a little video in the corner showing the LCD display (if supported).

Space Quest 2 Intro with PC speaker: http://youtu.be/AHoZr89bfWA

Space Quest 3 Intro with Roland MT-32: http://youtu.be/JUF8XxSKRA8

Space Quest 5 Intro with Roland SC-55: http://youtu.be/q9zlkv1uTUg

Yes! Starting fresh across all platforms 😀 I leave everything "alive" for a while to avoid dead links / missing images and so forth. It will take me a while to get all my subscribers back but it is what it is.

Why not get an admin to rename it? It's a piece of cake to rename members on phpBB, makes me wonder why some forums don't want to do this as if it were overly hard.

Good idea 😀 I shall ask.

And here is another project:

System used is:

Don't own one and really hard to get them in Australia. Plenty of Tandy owners on VOGONS however who could help out 😀

In this video I will talk about cheap replacement coolers from eBay, which cost just $5 shipped. Using a Leadtek GeForce4 Ti 4600, which has quite loud dual fans, I will replace the stock cooler.

Phil,

As far as your PC speaker recordings are concerned, they sound rather muffled and a bit tinny at the higher notes. Were you recording by connecting the PC Speaker header to a sound card? I have found that method to be unsatisfactory. I made recordings of Space Quest - Opening Theme using my Tandy 1000 TX and its really easy to do and the result is much brighter.

Yes I record it through a sound card. With the PC speaker the case, speaker and speaker position have a great effect on how it sounds.

And here the floppy version of SQ4. The best version to just listen to the amazing sound of the Roland MT-32. Sierra used a lot of custom sounds as well.

In this video I will show you how to patch old Sierra AGI games such as Space Quest 1 and 2 with drivers for Sound Blaster and MIDI. This enabled 3 voice sound and a somewhat richer gaming experience.

Credit to Jeremy W. Hayes for the AGIVER program and Anders M Olsson for the AGISB and AGIMIDI program.

At the end of the video are a few recordings to compare.

Thanks for posting this. It's too bad the midi sounds end up being used for in game sound effects too though, they always sound a bit off to me.
