Sauro Puccini released a beta version of the MSCDEX replacement for Windows NT, 2k and XP.

To use simply extract the two files in the archive in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32, in the VDMSound installation directory or in your game's directory and, instead of running MSCDEXNT.EXE, from now on run SAPUCDEX.EXE.

If running in VDMSound using LaunchPad, disable "Low-level CD-ROM support" (which uses the Windows emulation for now, so it's no good) and go to Advanced, DOS Environment, AUTOEXEC, and add the line:

SAPUCDEX

If using plain VDMSound, edit AUTOEXEC.VDMS in the VDMSound directory and replace MSCDEXNT with SAPUCDEX.

If not using VDMSound, edit AUTOEXEC.NT in the Windows directory and replace MSCDEXNT with SAPUCDEX.

SAPUCDEX should generate a log file in C:\VCDEX.LOG, so if you have problems with SAPUCDEX then zip and send the file to me at ntvdm@hotmail.com and I'll gladly forward it to Sauro.
