Yesterday we celebrated when it was announced that Criterion would finally give Andrei Takovsky's brilliant sci-fi classic Stalker the release it so greatly deserves.

Coming in July, the new release includes a bevy of extras including interviews, an essay and perhaps most importantly, a shiny new restoration by Mosfilm.

Following yesterday's announcement, Janus Film and Cinetic has now released a gorgeous new trailer for the restoration and it is a wonderful preview of what we can expect from the upcoming Criterion disc.

In addition to the upcoming release, Stalker will also be screening in a limited theatrical run at Film Society of Lincoln Center starting in May. Hopefully this means it will make the rounds through the North American cinematheque circuit.

Stalker will be available July 18.

Oh man thank you for that! Stalker is a great movie. In fact all Tarkovsky's movies are great. My favourite by far though is Andrei Rublev.

I've also seen this a while ago: http://www.openculture.com/2010/07/tarkovksy.html

EDIT: just saw the trailer, it sent chills up my spine!
