I am still getting the generic error 8 in dxdiag (HRESULT = 0x80004005) with 7.10. What a POS. I googled for it and, at least, I am not alone. 😠

Omega has released a 7.10 based version that claims to fix problems with AGP cards.

PS - Omega 7.10 version has actually fixed the issues I was having.

PS2 - New hotfix (version 3.8.421) to fix problems where files are not installing for users with PCIe cards.

So do the later Catalyst drivers work with the X800 in Vista any more?

I tried 7.9 and 7.11 and had issues.
Stuck 7.8 on her and it seems to work fine so far.

F'ing AMD.

Thread on the AMD forums for the issue with catalysts after 7.8.

Also the Omega drivers supposedly fix the issue.

Yep. Omega drivers based on 7.11 work for me, while anything beyond official 7.8 doesn't (on my X800GTO AGP). I've read on some other forums some people having problems with PCI-e cards too.

Has anyone else here who is running the 8.1 driver noticed a small white square in the upper left corner of your desktop? Both my machines are affected (one xp, one vista x64).

Yes. That is a known issue when the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) is enabled. It will be probably fixed on next version.

As for AGP cards, I still recommend sticking to version 7.7

8.1 didn't solve dxdiag d3d tests issues for me and I had to manuall install the 8.1hotfix (I don't remember the url) for it to accept my X800GTO (R420).

I have also noticed a performance decrease.

On some agp cards + certain chipsets (nForce2?) D3D will fail to work.

I have reverted back to 7.7 - I had to manually install 8.1 hotfix for it to recognize my card but I noticed quite a decrease in performance.

Also -> Workaround for the white dot issue.

UPDATE: I have noticed a small performance increase in 2D section. I guess that's better than nothing.
