The stinking pile of "horse manure" in this release is for a local account install you have to upgrade to the pro version.

Seems like this is just an hollow upgrade full of fluff, focused mainly on new ways to follow yer every move. Is it me or does
this release seem opportunistic in the wake of the "manufactured pandemic" especially as ms said W10 was supposed to be
the last version. Bull.

that PC will no longer be supported and won't be entitled to receive updates

Finally! Now we can install windows updates offline in peace.

Updating XP this way is great.

I haven't set up WSUS offline to do this for Windows 7 yet... Though I just upgrade Windows 7 machines to Windows 10.

Windows 11 is really the best thing that could have happened.

...it'll finally make me switch to linux 😀

That's what happened to me a few years ago. When Windows 7 went EOL, I permanently switched to Linux. I've been using both in parallel for years before that though.

Can't say I miss Windows much, but then again, I don't play many modern games. And the ones that I do play, I can get on consoles instead.

I thought that it already was? Since VS Code is an electron app?

I'm talking about Visual Studio.
Visual Studio Code has nothing to do with it, and is an inferior product.
Same for VS for Mac.

I haven't tried the Home version yet. In the Pro version, when it wants me to connect to a network, I just click the link that says "I don't have Internet" and then it asks if I want to continue with a "limited account".

On my own machines, I always set it up with my MS account though. That way, licenses can be moved freely to new systems. You can't do this with an offline account. Ended up having to use one of my spare licenses when I upgraded a system for a friend because I had originally set them up with an offline account and didn't have them set up an MS account and log in to it before I did the upgrade.

Ah, well. I do not use VS or VS Code anyway 😜

My preferred IDE for my area of work is Coda 2, from Panic. Two minutes using VS Code was enough for me to reinstall Coda 2 and pay for a license, years ago. Panic at least gave me a 70% discount.

You don't need that for Windows 7. There's a separate project which can patch existing Windows 7 SP1 or image with all updates, excluding telemetry bloat - UpdatePack7R2

Windows has mated with OSX and KDE now look on the Result 😳

For German Windows 7 and XP there are Updatepacks,

I hope I can add a TPM 2.0 chip to upgrade to Windows 11.

It looks like TPM 2.0 is not all sunshine, rainbows and improved security though. Valorant is a fresh example of DRM enforcing via TPM, which should rise some concerns.

For German Windows 7

You can unofficially switch Windows 7 Pro language though, so there's no need for separate language update packs for Vista or Seven.

Hell yeah Disk Rescue Companys will dance in Joy. TPM + Disk Encryption, imagine if your Mainboard dies and you where to lazy for Backups. 😁

At least China will have concerns, TPM Chips are banned since 1999 there.

Hah.. you are supposed to keep the recovery code in case something like that happens.

Or, ya know, you could always just not encrypt disks on your home systems.

An I7 6700K (2016 era) system should be able to upgrade, in a sane world.
It would be less of a hassle than migrating (again) to Linux. :p

You'll have to see if your motherboard supports a TPM module. If not, then you will need to get one that already has it or that accepts an add-on one.

Can anyone comment on gaming performance hits? Keep reading W11 slows everything down.

Noticed a couple of posts got "vaporized". What's up with that?

I watched a youtube video about that. Sounds like some virtualization crap that is going to be implemented but also sounds like it should be able to be disabled through the registry:
https://youtu.be/MRdfMPj1Rzg

My main/gaming computer is only running a 5th gen Xeon so I'm not even going to try Windows 11 on that... waiting to get a Ryzen or Threadripper setup before I go to Windows 11 on my main PC.

Haven't tried gaming on my laptop that has a Quadro P4000 since I put 11 on it.
