As a result of #hvdosdev game-creating contest, we now have six brand new games for DOS! 😀 All games were tested on 486DX2/66MHz, all run in CGA (tested in DosBox).

Robod - sci-fi FPS game
Settlement - puzzle-adventure
Arcomage - yes, Arcomage ! 😀
T-Miner - crafting game
CGpinball - pinball
Brunwald - simple 2D shooter

For more information see https://www.high-voltage.cz/2022/anketa-soute … -hvdosdev-2022/ - article is in czech, but all games are in english

It's about time DOS got some more love too, all other retro platforms get plenty of titles each year but not us - hope this will start to change!
Thanks for the heads up sledge!

We need something like a C64 or NES mini to create a buzz about DOS gaming. Unfortunately, there isn't an iconic DOS system that would be suitable, as the hardware was so heterogeneous. I'm not sure if a "beige box" mini would sell (-:

I would assume that a reason for its failure was the lack of an iconic system to recreate. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any branded computers that would be suitable. Stuff like the IBM PS2 would be too old and probably doesn't have the nostalgia value either. With old PCs, we're more interested in what's inside the box. Probably doesn't help that most retro pc gamers are probably well accustomed to using Dosbox at a computer anyways. If you are playing games that require a keyboard, you probably won't be sitting in front of your tv.

.....what's not iconic about the IBM 5150 / XT? No, that's not the problem.

Well, you wouldn't want people to get confused with a Van Halen album, so that's out:

Well, there ARE some, I'm trying to track them and add them to http://www.doshaven.eu 😀

For example this year I've found 11 games, plus 6 new games from #hvdosdev, so 17 games in total. Not that bad, and I've definitely missed some.

Dell put out Inspiron 5150 and Dimension 5150 computers in the 2000s. I assume this was some kind of tribute/homage.

Is this too much voodoo?
