Possibly the worst case I could use to build a monster XP gaming rig, but it's got a $300 (2001) paint job, so here we go.
I've got plenty of vintage rigs, in fact one of each generation starting at 80386, and then some. But I wanted something for 32bit xp that'll handle 1999-2010 gaming at 1600x1200. Digging through my stash I found a Pentium D 840 Compaq, perfect... Slap it in and fire it up, meh, but 50c in bios - oh no. I've got plenty of watercooling gear around, let's see what we can do here.
Well the Compaq has a terribad Radeon x200 chipset and DDR memory but a GeForce 9600 PCI-e, ya I can do better than this. Dig up a gigabyte P45 board, order an E8600 because the Q9300 ain't gonna cut it and 2x 2gb dominator because all the ddr3 I have is 4gb+. An evga GTX580 that's already got a water block and memory cooler on it adds the cherry on top.
The 360 radiator is mounted to the wall and hooks in with alphacool quick disconnects.
Still waiting on some fittings and hose clamps that are the right size. Hopefully I can get it leak tested within the next couple days.
