After Skyscraper showed his slot1 baby-AT build here Slot-1 Baby-AT Minitower build., my case complained and I decided to show it too! 🤣
Purpose? Late 90s gaming of course!

3dfx voodoo3 3000 obtained from keropi and PcPartner VIB862D baby-AT slot1 mobo obtained from sprcorreia. The PSU is brand new, the CPU is a PIII 750 (7.5x100) Coppermine with massive-passive heatsink attached!

View from above without the PSU:

After a couple of minutes the Voodoo3 gets EXTREMELY hot (typical, but I didn't feel good with that), so I decided to put a fan. Why a big one? To cool the CPU and the GPU together, silently! 😉

Case front. A little yellowing but I don't have another AT case 😢

TODO list:

Waiting for a PCI -> USB card, as just one onboard USB is not handy...
Need to cover 1 slot on the back of the case and the COM/LPT holes.
Need a new PS/2 bracket and cable because this one has also an LPT hole. But where can I find one...? 😕

What do you think? Any suggestions for making it better please? 😊
Specs right behind --> Monitor is Hitachi 19" CM772E "flat" from 2001 (1800x1350@75Ηz max, 1600x1200/1280x1024 @ 85Hz) 😉

I like it. 😁 I had no idea they even made Baby AT boards that could take Pentium IIIs. I used to own a Slot 1 AT board which I believe was limited to Pentium IIs, but it was a POS that destroyed pretty much every hard drive that was hooked up to it, so I binned it. 🤣

Ohh no! Don't bin such stuff. I have one s7 AT mobo brocken but I haven't tossed it yet...

They made them handle Katmai CPUs, not more recent Coppermines! But I was lucky it recognised it and adjusted the voltage right (as the regulator is able to provide 1.3-3.5 volts and the Coppermine PIII draws less power than the Katmais). It seems that the auto set voltage/fsb pins on the CPU did the job. 😁

Still, is has only up to 8x multis, so even if I install a 566MHz Celeron (66x8.5) it doesn't boot. Nor it can handle 133MHz FSB. But it works reliable and within spec with the PIII and I'm happy with that! After all, it's an AT mobo. ATX was out before the design of slot1.

The floppies on this system are actually useless, because the cable has to go a very very long way and gets in the way of many things in there.
I needed them to cover the front 3.5" bezels. Somewhere I have the one cover but I need to find it.

It came with a p133 if I remember correctly.
Nice build!

The case is from 1997. It came with INTEL 82430TX mobo, Pentium 166MMX CPGA, 2x16MB EDO ram, 1 floppy drive (no CDROM originally), Seagate Medalist 2.5GB HDD, Opti16 ISA crap audio card and Diamond S3 Trio64V+ 1MB PCI. The PSU was extremely quiet but I changed it due to being 16 years old. 🤣 Original OS: Windows 95.
I must find 1-2 more AT cases though... but I don't know where. 😢

It was a few years ago that I binned that board. I knew it was something special, but I remember the previous owners of the board having problems with it, and at the time I knew nothing about motherboard component repairs. I still don't unfortunately. 🤣

At 500rpm, it is whisper quiet and even a leaf in there would barely move.

And that's the advantage of large fans: Little or no noise at low rpm while still moving lots of cfm 😉 .

Aww..

I was going to complement you on keeping this stuff running frosty. I have fairly high volume fans on all my vintage rigs to keep them as close to room temperature as possible throughout the entire board. I know... obsessive, but, hey, why not right?

Sometimes, I'm not sure I understand myself...

But well my point was for a vintage rig I usually go overkill on the airflow. My vintage machines tend to be louder than my daily drivers just because I want them as cold as possible. I could put the ATX ones in better ATX cases, but that isn't as much fun as cutting out bigger holes for 120mm fans and the like. Both my PIII system and my PI system have 120mm fans that dump around 80Cfm directly onto the expansion cards to keep them nice and cold. I'm running a V3 3000 in my PIII but when it ran SLI voodoo 2's, they ran at near room temperature with no heat sinks installed.
