Seriously you people consider synthetic benchmarks as good performance measure? That's no way indication of real world performance, specially if said bechmarks were compiled with Intel compilers. Man Intel really did a great job making its micro-architecture look not so bad.

Intels micro-architecture might have been slow but their chipsets were great and the XP era motherboards for Intel platforms were often of high quality. I think all agree that the K8 micro-architecture beats Netburst hands down but finding Nforce3 or Nforce4 motherboards in good condition and with a fair price isnt always easy.

They are warm, your system will be very hot!
So you must use good cooler.

His system is socket 478 😀

In my opinion the best choice is to use athlon 64 939 agp platform for games under 2006!

Perhaps something like this!
PCI-E gives more choices when it comes to DX9 video cards.

I read only now!
Good choice! 😀
775 CPU are awful! Vrm capacitor suffered a lot

You don't need pci-express platform for games under 2006 😉
If you find athlon 64 Venice or San Diego cores + 1gb ddr + a native agp gpu (like geforce 6800 or radeon X800) it will be fine

I kind of agree but some members like to play their XP era games at 1600*1200 with AA 😀 If you want to do that with a strict 2004 build then Nforce4 and Geforce 6800 GT/Ultra SLI is the only choice. I like the 7800/7900 GTX because its as fast as 6800 Ultra SLI but without all the drawbacks of SLI. I do not use the Geforce 7950 GX2 I was showing off here in the thread in any build I actually use.

Look at this, today I turn on PC and it beeps a lot, after mobo (Abit IC7-G) reset it show me this:
P21_02_15_12_56.jpg
System 127
CPU -15
PWM 127

(it shows still the same temperatures)
PC will turn on always on second time, with default BIOS sett.
Windows and Games running withouth problems...
BIOS reflash didnt help.
😒

Yes sensors failed!
Where i can get it, suitable type?

By the way: Why my MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum shows 1300MHz on AthlonXP 3000+?
When I change settings-to the right, PC didnt boot up.

I think you could try to just reseat the BIOS chip.
I do not think this will fix the issue but its worth a try.
You could also try to flash a new BIOS if reseating the BIOS chip dosnt work.

I think its more likely that the IC that handles the voltage and temperature monitoring has somehow failed.
Its perhaps not a huge issue but you need to check the temperatures the old-fashioned way.

There probably is not "replacement" for the sensors on that motherboard - though if it's just the diode inside the CPU though, a new CPU would probably work. Have you tried that?

On the MSI board - is it setting the FSB up incorrectly?

Motherboard cant dettect CPU correctly. It shows only Athlon XP 1300MHz not 3000+ (2,16GHz) but CPU is it (AXDA3000DKV4D). After I changed specification to 166MHz FSB and 13x multiplier, PC wont start up. MSI k7N2Delta2P doesnt have any jumpers on it. I read manual too...

Just finished building a decent Retro Rig from this period, consisting of ...

Intel Pentium Dual Core e2160 @ 1.8Ghz stock
4CoreDual SATA2 Asrock 775 motherboard
AGP 8x : Radeon x800se / Geforce 6800xt / Leadtek 5900 Ultra (tested only these so far)
1GB (2x512) OCZ 433Mhz DDR
Audigy 2 ZS PCI
40GB Maxtor IDE 5400rpm
74GB Western Raptor SATA 10,000rpm
DVD/RW Optical SATA
500W Apline PSU
Asus brushed steel black ATX case (made in 2004, 211mm wide)
Windows 2000

The cheat is the e2160, being that it was made in 2006, but as it only runs at a stock 1.8Ghz yet is comparable to a Prescott P4 @ 3.2Ghz in gaming performance, I picked the e2160 because it runs MUCH cooler. Also has the option to overclock to silly speeds, not that I am considering doing this. I picked the DDR 433Mhz over using DDR2 because the OCZ stuff looks great with the RAM coolers. Also wanted to use the AGP 8x port instead of the PCI-ex 4x, because I have lots of AGP cards from this period, and my slowest PCI-ex card is a 1950XTX, which is overkill for 2004 as it can score over 20,000 in 3DMark 2003 with a decent CPU.

I've ran a bunch of synthetic benchmarks with all 3 cards above. Still have a geforce 5700v, 9800pro and 1950xt to test. Also ran Doom III for a quick blast to try each card, but only at 1024x768. Even the 5900 Ultra managed a playable framerate but nothing as smooth as the x800se or 6800xt.

Performance in 3DMark 2000 and 2001se were pretty much similar across all cards (obviously CPU bound), with the 6800xt winning by a slight margin in 2001se. The big differences were in 3D Mark 2003...

5900 Ultra - 5752
x800se - 8929
6800xt - 11526

DDR1+2, AGP+PCIE, good board anyway
I have now 7900GTO@GTX and it is great up to 2007 for 1600x1200 gameplay
(and dont think, that in Quake4 it is overkilled 😁 if I turn on 8x AA it tears)
This week i will get the same card to SLI

But maybee SanDiego 3700+@2.6GHz will be slow then

Yeah that 3700 will struggle to keep legs with SLI 7900GT's. Will be a very fast machine, but much overkill for 2004. I can see how big the gap is between 2003-2005. I mean COD 2 needs a very fast card to run in max, even the 6800GT cannot run COD2 in DirectX 9 mode with smooth FPS, but only a year before the 6800GT was considered one of the best cards. The 6800GT is also overkill for most 2003 games, with the 9700pro / 5950Ultra being just fine for that year.

It was an exciting time for PC gaming.

Your motherboard is nice too 🤣 Love LanParty motherboards. I had a 754 LanParty board that had an AGP 8x slot. Made a really nice machine with an Athlon 64 3700+ and 1950Pro Gecube AGP.
