Hi all

This weekend I had a bucketload of extra parts turn up to finally build a rig I had been longing for since forever..... The humble 486 build similar to what I had bitd

On Saturday morning I received the following motherboard as well as other parts such as 2x vlb I/O cards, 1x voodoo1 and 1xvoodoo2 card

It came generously with 2 x 16mb Simms so 32mb should keep me going for a while

Its been setup with a Holtek VLB I/O Card, Awe32 with 8mb ram, 20GB Maxtor drive and a throwaway cd drive until I find one that matches the setup

Heres the lovely little case its been shoehorned into, genuine NOS AT case being assisted by my daugher 😁

So far have DOS 6.22 and 3.11 tested as well as a quick blast on Win95 which seemed to work well but I'm limited as I don't have a mouse that works so a serial mouse is now on order 😀

I've also recycled the MSI-6156 board from my original Tiny Computers PC into a replacement case to setup some good old late 90s early 2000's gaming. There are a few suspect caps on the board but so far its working fine. Just need to find a decent AGP board to run as the 9700 pro I had is now faulty!

Amongst other bits and bobs I also received an Amstrad 1640 keyboard as I liked the look of it but it appears to have an XT connector, do adaptors exist?

Next job is to make early to mid 2000's and mid 2000's to late 2000's rigs. I have more than enough cases, motherboards and parts to do it 😁

Cool build. That looks like a desktop version of a case I have here, never seen it before.

Unfortunately I believe the Amstrad 1512 & 1640 keyboards use a proprietary protocol and won't work with a standard XT or AT 😢 Shame because they are relatively easy to find in the UK.

Thats a shame, ho hum - I may put it on display then instead 😀

I've seen another version of this case and a few others I have, sadly the rest are all towers as I prefer the desktop ones as that what I used to rock bitd 😀

That's a quality board, cool keyboard too... not getting any cheaper either these older keyboards.

Keep us posted with the build!

Cheers guys, I'll get a few pics of it completed soon!

Did try to play Theme Park on it but the lack of mouse caused it to throw me out after the intro 🙁

The Videocard is a VLB Cirrus Logic of some description, will get the number when at home!

Its certainly a nippy system, loads windows 95 uber quick and runs really nicely. I did have a DX2-50 Amstrad PC9486 bitd with 4mb ram upgraded to 8mb (for the princely sum of £270!) I wanted a system that covered the early to mid 90s well 😀

Oh and the case even has a turbo led and working switch, Woohoo!!!!!

Still finding drawer after drawer of all my games from dos era upto current in the garage!
