Without turning over the board in my own hands, I can't be sure, but looking at your picture, this is what I think...

The CMOS battery is inside of that Odin real time clock chip. You'll have to either replace it or cut into it and solder a new battery on.

Do the dallas mod, which will allow you to solder a CR2032 socket on top of it!

I'll tell ya, though, looking at that motherboard brings me back to my pre-teen years and my father's old 80486 MS-DOS PC. It had Windows 3.1 on it, but you had to type in the command to start it and we used to play mad DOS games on it like Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM, Jet Fighter Advanced Tactical Fighter, Star Wars X-Wing, and the like.

4x2 block of pins next to other I/O ports likely a USB 1.0 header

Something like this will do. This is just an example I found quickly on the Bay, but maybe you can find one in your area.

The difference between 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 is all bus-based. The wiring are identical. It's not until you hit USB 3.0 that extra wires/contacts get added. That device would work with any USB port up to 2.0.

Pretty system you are building there, I would pick a better sound card that has native opl3 in some form. Beyond that you are on the right track to building a good dos and early 9x system. As for the S3 yes it doesn't have much bang in 3D and people called them back in the day 3D "de-accelerator".

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

Maybe try the driver for the 2000 Pro? You can find it here as well as some other S3 drivers.

not yet im going to solder in a coin battery, there is a slot for it on the board. I will post back here in a few days when I get the battery holder in the mail.

Im going to be redoing this project with the same board, I will have a brand new AT case for it as well.

I was wondering about that. The +ve trace leads directly to pin 20 on the RTC chip, same as the "dallas mod" people have mentioned. However the -ve trace doesn't lead to pin 16 as the mod requires. (it doesn't seem to lead anywhere) Will it still work?

Also there are no holes for the battery holder pins. How to solder it in place?

Is this too much voodoo?
