Fun, that style of cases was very popular with the early 'wave' of cheap brandless clones, in my experience. I mostly saw them in the early 90s with 286 and 386SX systems. Local shops would buy cheap Taiwenese cases, motherboards, Trident/Realtek/Oak videocards, and build these systems under their own brand.
The mini-tower form-factor. It only lasted a few years I guess, then the midi-tower became more popular, and I think it's still the most popular form factor today.
