(My first PC recreation) Perfect addition to my game room all together!
(My first PC recreation) Perfect addition to my game room all together!
This is a pic I took of my computer rig in about 1997 or 1998. I still have the joysticks, mouse, keyboard, monitor stand, CD tower and lamp from this photo. I am currently gathering parts to recreate this setup, or as close as possible.
As far as I can remember, the computer was a CyberMax pre-built, Pentium 133, Biostar motherboard, 32mb of RAM, Ensoniq Soundscape sound card, Hercules Dynamite 128 (ET6000) 2d video card and an Orchid Righteous 3d Voodoo 1 card.
Love it! Don't know why i never thought to pick one up... IBM build quality, but with IDE and no MCA making it nice and expandable. Where did you end up finding yours? Were you able to get it with the correct monitor/keyboard/mouse or did you source all those seperately?

I have no clue what I'm doing! If you want to watch me fumble through all my retro projects, you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/user/MrDavejustdave
finally, i replaced the dual arm with two single arms. they are more customizable - i liked the most this "overlapping" mode. but of course it is possible to use in "dual monitor" mode too. i calculated it, i need ca +40-45cm longer desk for the proper dual desktop (180cm).

Contented sigh, neatness makes me happy. But are those real plants or plastic? If plastic then points off 🤣
Life? Don't talk to me about life.
This is my main work area. Please excuse the excessive amounts of empty alcohol containers. The Old Grand Dad and I are on a first-name basis. In the background you can see my Blade Runner shrine. Posters are forthcoming.

The big PC Power and Cooling tower and the Lian Li PC-V1000LB (modern tower) are both currently undergoing some massive changes. I'll leave these here for now though!! (: Happy to be a part of the group!
Hi,
I'm pretty much interested in your vintage build. It's really awesome!
What's inside that beautiful case?
Which CRT monitor are you using?
I just realized that PC from pic nr. 1 is different from the one in pics nr. 2 and 3 😁

-Primary Video Card: ATi Rage 128
-3D Accelerator: Quantum3D Obsidian2 x-24 (2 Voodoo2's in sli on a single card)
-Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!
-IDE Controller: Promise Ultra133 tx2
-Storage: 80gb WD
-PSU: Antec EarthWatts 380W
-Fans: 3 80mm Noctua fans
Supermicro tower had

The PC Power and Cooling tower is undergoing some major changes.. Won't spill the beans too much but there is a Dual Slot 1 motherboard that will be involved 😉

Nice collection!
Missing 8080 and 8085 though 😜
Don't stop there. Begin snapping up microcontrollers, embedded processors, and other non x86 chips. Note, old laser printers are an excellent source for embedded RISC CPUs.

That's RISCy, isn't it?

No, I wouldn't whiSH you to PIC through anything dangerous. It's not like reaching into a tank of SHARCs. However, I do appreciate your SPARCy sense of humor. More POWER to you.

I wonder how much gold you could get if you melted all of those CPUs down.

Requests here!

Just enough to piss off everyone here, and fill yourself with regret 😀
CPUs for gold is a stupid idea, you need TONS of them to recover any valuable quantity. If you want to make money, take care of the CPUs you find and sell them, you'll earn much more ! Anything older than P4 starts getting expensive on ebay..
I went from a pretty nice setup to being relegated to the garage. At my old job, I had the office to myself, and it would sometimes get pretty slow. So I had a lot of time to go find goodies and didn't have to bring my clutter home. But I hated that job, and have since found a much better one without that kind of freedom.
Also, we are having twins in about a month, so my play area has to be the garage. Nothing's really set up yet, I haven't had time. But at least it has a home and I didn't have to get rid of everything.
It's all just sitting on my project table - not pretty but I have some ideas for when I get around to it.
