Sooo....
Today I've been given some free boards. One is a LuckyStar 6VA694+ VER:2.0 and the other is a ASUS K8V-X SE w/ Sempron 3000+.
This thread focuses on the former.
So, upon a good inspection, the boards was in a pretty sorry state.
I think it's pretty obvious. Crap caps galore. Not to mention, there was a popped (bulged) MOSFET near the CPU socket. Also, sweet Jesus that entire section above the CPU. Made my skin crawl.
So, I proceeded to replace the caps. Went through my stash and found 14 OST caps, 2006 datecode, just great. Got away with leaving two of the bigger caps (although they weren't made for the respective silkscreen, which was waay smaller than that) and replaced the MOSFET with a 30V part (it was originally a 60V, dunno why waste a 60V part in a spot where 30V is enough)
Finally, replaced the battery holder as well since it was corroded.
This is a shot before I powered it on. I used a beefy Deer PSU I recapped and modified myself with good parts for testing, and a Forza FX5200 128MB/128bit.
....and it's alive! Of course, CMOS checksum error. Was expecting that.
I'm open for suggestions as to what GPU to use - I have a ATI Rage IIC, a GF2MX400 and a MX440 and a Xpert2000. Same for HDD - 10, 20 or 40GB? You decide.
