hello

i am having a problem with L2 cache on a asus PVI-486AP4 motherboard
and a genuine 486DX4-100 and 256KB L2 cache in write back mode.

basically i ram access is slow (one 16MB 60ns).
cachechk reports 92ns for write and 145 for read.
speedsys says 70MB bandwidth

worse if i disable L2 cache in bios i get over 100MB bandwidth
in speedsys.

where am i wrong ?

thank you

but does performance improve too? your cache seems a tad bit slow, so maybe settings are wrong?

if i disable L2 cache, system is slower. i followed the manual informations
i even swapped cache ram (not the two cache tag srams) 15ns without
improvement

so everything is generally ok, just look at the settings; i dont remember the numbers but i do believe l2 might run faster

see an example - imho this looks similar to yours - https://socket3.files.wordpress.com/2016/11/speedsys-486.png
just find cache settings in bios and check them;
the speedup will not be huge anyway - to be specific - by a quick google i found one example where l2 did 50MBps
