2 years resurrection incoming 😁

So, I think it took almost 4 months for my system be stable >_> but tadah, it's working 😁, well, here's the hardware situation:

-128mb sdram ( I had a 256mb too but, it was too much and there was some problem with the 256mb one '-' )
-3DFX VOODOO 3 3000 AGP (Hell, what a gpu hehe), it's not the best card for the system, but I couldn't find a better one on the time and cheaper.
-1 usb 2.0 pci with 5 usbs (1 inside that's being used to light up the clock display)
-Maxi Sound Game Theater 64 (still a gorgeous sound card 😁 )
-MS-5184 motherboard
-80Gb seagate (still can only run 34gb of it but it's fine for now)
-ATX psu (FSP250-60GTA, this monster still works since 2000 😳 and with -5v output heh)
-Aoc 4vn crt monitor (I needed that *__*)

Also the system got a name:COMMODO 3000 (mix of commodore + voodoo 3 3000)

Also, if you guys enjoy some gameplay, here's some testing gameplay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2A7fqIF9Y8 (Recorded using a generic easycap + generic vga to component converter)

Also, I discovered why my system was sooooo slow, the guilty was the usb flash memory over the usb 2.0 board (I lost 12FPS just because that thing plugged 😮), for some reason, if I plugged the flash memory over the onboard usb I wouldn't lose any fps...

For those who like numbers and Excel, here are some hehe
Usb test to check what was causing the lag:http://www.mediafire.com/view/199ix1g5rz5mo01 … _TEST_PMMX.xlsx
Gpu test to check how well each gpu/driver would perform:http://www.mediafire.com/view/s6r8s8h3na8amsa … _TEST_PMMX.xlsx
All the tests made to detect what was causing all the problem over the system (note, I stoped to update it when I changed the PSU and that fixed all my problems) http://www.mediafire.com/view/lfkgbzwzf93rxch … _PC_ANTIGO.xlsx
-Fuu, I lost my cache memory test ;--;
Some of the Excel may contain portuguese words, and I may translate it on the future...

Also some pics if you from the system and some random problems from the dark age (when I had the AT PSU on it)
this is the inside of the "new" ATX psu, note it was really dirty, but calm down, it's clean now

Ah the evil AT PSU...

Some Weird Bugs that I had on my AT times
http://i.imgur.com/zLhqh9d.jpg (My lcd screen looks like a crt monitor 😖)
http://i.imgur.com/LM6a7NE.jpg BSOD got BSOD
Extra, this was the first time that I used the ATX psu on this baby at, since I didn't want to touch the jumpers and nothing on the mb, I used the other case power switch to turn it on rofl (note, since the psu is 220v only, I need to use a big 110v to 220v trasnformer D:)
http://i.imgur.com/61DjwbJ.jpg
Well, that's all for now I'll update the main post soon.
Next step, fix my commodore 64 ;--;

Thanks guys for the support on this post and on the other ones 😀

Wow, crazy thing happened this minute, I was booting my system like always, I entered the windows password and then a black screen appeared with a windows 3.11 like message, the system got stucked and then only rested me to reset, when I was booting windows couldn't find win.com anymore 😳, well, I think I've learned a good lesson, never press cancel over fdisk on a windows 9x system D:

http://i.imgur.com/WcAJp9F.jpg
the only understendable message over that was "next" and "actions", Well, it looks it's time to do a clean install again xD

EDIT: using a linux live cd I discovered that win.com is now called win!!!.com 😮 and it's 17mb (idk if it's the right size)

EDIT2: Good, I had a backup win98 install over my hard drive, I just needed to extract win.cnf from win98_25.cab and paster it over windows folder...

Since, I can work over lan, I'll pass a virus scan over it with kaspersky, maybe the anti virus that's inside of it isn't the best one

EDIT3: Register is missing error, oh crap, and when it boots in safemode it gets a VWIN32 blue screen and then it gets stucked '-'...

Well, it looks like I'll need to make a clean install on it '-' I hope at least I can make a backup with puppy linux over an external hdd

EDIT4: Formated, now I did everything from start, and backed up everything 😁, wow windows 98 boots in 10 seconds rofl (plus scandisk is so fast now, I hope it'll be the same way in the future)

EDIT5: FOR FOX SAKE!!!!: It was ok, I transfered my 10gb of games and nothing bad, BUT, when I installed the ethernet driver and restarted, he game me a FPU overflow 😮, and then I got stucked on "verifying DMI pool data and nothing about boot '-'
Hell yeah, that's why I love old computers rofl

I gave up from my extra 17MHz 🙁
It happened again, alot of corrupt files, clusters that got broken, files with changed names (HIMEM.SYS -> HIMEM ! ! !.SYS)...
This time I did a nice start, I did a low level format, I did 4 or 5 disk health test and all of them received an ok, there's no bad blocks.

Here's a log from scandisk:
67 invalid folders were removed
6 input FAT cell were truncated
42 invalid folders were removed
1 reference "cruzada" was fixed
111 lost folders were restored (probably related to nero install)
1 FAT copy was updated

well, most of these errors came when I installed the etherned driver, and when I tried to install NERO, after I tried to install nero my system got really unstable (like fatal erros with trash over texts and cubes ■ on error description)...

idk if it's the processor that was overclocked (233MHz -> 250MHz) since on puppy linux live cd it was usable by 2 hours tranfering the hdd data to an external drive so here're my guess
PROCESSOR: maybe it's the cause, but if it was that, it should crash puppy linux live cd, unless linux is way more stable on unstable machines.
HDD: all tests concluded the HDD is ok, there're no bad blocks reported, maybe the ide cable is the problem?
RAM:MEMTEST86 runned by some hours and ended up in an ok ram
PSU: this one is a badass war machine, it's a 280Watts or 250, survived on a pentium 3 1GHz + 1GB ram + Geforce FX5500 + 2 DVD-ROM + 2HDDs, I think this one is just good psu.
GPU: Idk, what's a good way to test it?

Some sugestiosn to help me find what're the causings of all that weirdness?

EDIT+++++++++++++++

HOLLY ***, I resurrected my machine without any clean reinstall 😳
procedures
->Scandisk, maybe it fixed almost all problematic files.
->went to C:\Windows\Options\Cabs where some backup windows files are (like explorer.exe) replaced their original windows files.
->Regedit imported my backed up register and voala.

System booted, no BSOD, all drivers working, well, I'll make an edit or another post for the final results...

Cruzada=crossed 😉
The overclock might've raised the slots clocks as well, causing the IDE controller to run unstable leading to data corruption. Depending on the FSB you set, they might change ISA and PCI clocks as well.

on that clock case (at least acording to the manual) the PCI/AGP clock isn't changed compared to the 66FSB.
Well, this board should support a K6-III so I don't see the IDE controller as a problem, but actually I'm starting to think about a new victim.
This week, I replaced the IDE cable, and the IDE HDD for a 40gb model (+ made a commodore 64 logo.sys for it 😁 )
But I noted an interesting problem, every time I was removing a cable or an agp board the bios just did beeps, that got fixed removing the ram and adding it back.
so I suspect the ram is fine, BUT, it's suffering with bad contact on the motherboard 🙁

For now, the system situation is that sometimes the system will freeze on the boot logo, I reset it and it will work fine on the second try without scandisk.
Maybe I'll get another motherboard on the future, (not in a short future since people are only selling this super socket 7 motherboard)

Maybe that particular CPU had an errata bug which was triggered raising its clock.

hmmm, is there a way to know if that processor has some errata bug? (Is that the F00V bug?)

and for some fun, here's my windows 98se boot screen modified 😁 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXvBL3KztEQ&f … ezhw1xbjz1foxf0

EDIT: on bootlog.txt I noted when he windows stop loading, it stop here

"Initing ESDI_506.pdr"
when the boot works, I get much more messages after it, like "init success esdi_506.pdr"

EDIT2:
My processor revision is the MXB1 and it's on that list 😖
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/penti … b/CS-013148.htm

EDIT3:
MXB1 data came form cpu-z
from everest, I could get this data
-CPU ALias, P55C, A80503
-CPU Stepping xB1

I wanted to give a try on a K6-III+ but, before, I think I'll get a K6-II to see how well the system works under the FSB100.
so, is it a good Idea? and for a K6-II and K6-III+, is the pentium mmx cooling system enough?

The model is like this one http://mlb-s2-p.mlstatic.com/3846-MLB4875502344_082013-Y.jpg

News (and kinda bad '-')

All the time it's freezing on the same specific spot, and what I discovered is that some other guy got the same problem here http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=1699328

And that's kinda true, this motherboard is really hard to set the ram to work, if something inside the cpu was touched, it most of the times will fail to read the ram, so, I did a trick to try to not make it move, but still, it's not working 100%, well, I think it's just better to try to get another MB 🙁

UPDATE:
-Bios update \o/ (got a new eeprom from the seller with the bios ready, he actually added the rom that I have and not the new one... so I need to do some trick on it, since, award bios updater just killed the bios ...)
-Bios reupdate D: (doing some bios swap I finally could erase that Doom award tool, and replaced it with a generic bios upgrade tool that did a better job than award software...)
-128GB HDD SUPPORT !!!! (heh, it's time to clone the 32gb hdd to the big 80gb brother)
-K6-III+ SUPPORT 😁 😁::D:D:D

now, the best part, I bought a K6-III+ 400 by only $10!!! (and one week I took mine the seller down the price to $5 😳)

Since I needed to remove the isa sound card to remove the bios while in working, I took some better pics from it from the front and left side of it, if there's someone curious about it

This machine is at the end of upgrades, I think it's just time to buy some stuff for the commodore 64 that's forgoten, I also now have an apple 2, well, heck, I'm full of old pcs D:

Where did you get it at that price?! For $5,00 I wouldn't mind grabbing one myself.

Unfortnetly, the last units were sold this week, but, here was the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-K6-III-400ACR-SOC … %3D291508620641
