RAM: 256 + 128 = 384

Consider 'upgrading' to Windows 95c, or Windows 98 SE, from Windows ME 😵

I don't think changing a GeForce 5500 to a 6200 would qualify as an "upgrade", better save your money and get something faster.

Correct, but I guess 16MB are used as Video RAM by the integrated 82810 graphics controller.

Actually the 6200 is quite a lot faster than the 5500, but frankly these days a 7600 in AGP is quite cheap so jump up to that.

Also overclock that Celery D...

Well, about GeForce 6200... It depends. I had one in me previous main rig (AMD Sempron 2600+, ASUS K8V-X socket 754 mobo with VIA K8T800 chipset, 512 Mb DDRAM, 80 Gb WD [ATA] and then 250 Gb Maxtor [SATA II], GeForce 6200.
Mine was a very speedy card, more than 10000 3D Marks 2001.

On the other hand, me cousin has a similar PeeCee (AMD Sempron 2800+, don't know the mobo but it's got PCI Express, 512 Mb DDR, some 250 Gb HDD and a PCI-Express GeForce 6200 TurboCache), and it's lousy....
Barely 4000 3D Marks 2001, even after I installed the latest drivers.

The FX 5500 I tested got 4700 3D Marks. A bit better than the ATI Radeon 9250 I owned at that time, which was on par with a FX 5200 (4200 3D Marks).

Oh, I almost forgot... My onboard GeForce 7050 makes 6100 3D Marks 2001.

Y2K box: AMD Athlon K75 (second generation slot A)@700, ASUS K7M motherboard, 256 MB SDRAM, ATI Radeon 7500+2xVoodoo2 in SLI, SB Live! 5.1, VIA USB 2.0 PCI card, 40 GB Seagate HDD.
WIP: external midi module based on NEC wavetable (Yamaha clone)
