Nice system & scores!
The SCSI setup seems really fast, and the AMD 5x86 is not wasted in this board.

P.S.: How did the Ensoniq card get bent upwards?

The card was bent this way when I recieved it..I bought it used about a month ago.
Usually these lomg cards are bent downwards but maybe the the prevous owner had a opposite gravity where he lived 😁

Just recieved a Sound Blaster AWE32 CT3900 which replaced the noisy, muffled Sound Blaster CT1740.
I moved over the DB60XG clone midi DB to the CT3900
The sound quality compared to the CT1740 is like night and day but I might have to live with a hanging note sometimes, hehe

Here's the internal shot of my EISA 486 tower you wanted to see. It's kind of hard to tell what's going on in there with the full length card in the way.

Is the Elsa Winner gfx card hiding behind the Supermac? 😉

No, the card hiding at the back is currently an ARK1000VL with 2mb.

The supermac spectrum replaces the 4mb Winner 2000 EISA board I had in there previously. The reason is that I was not able to get the Winner 2000 to work properly as a secondary card.

My plan has always been a dual graphics card configuration. I want the fastest DOS performance possible, and the fastest Windows performance possible...but you simply can't have both using just one card. DRAM cards suck in windows, and VRAM cards suck in DOS. There are certain graphics cards where you can switch off the VGA core or use as coprocessor only.

In theory the Winner 2000 should have worked fine as a secondary card. Infact it did work mostly. But, there were serious problems with the windows not redrawing properly. It looked to be a driver issue in WFWG 3.11. I was using the final release of the drivers from ELSA. To be honest I didn't really try earlier versions, or just the generic s3 928 drivers. It is possible a different driver would have fixed the problem

I am going to try the Winner 2000 again later under Windows 98 and Windows 2000 to see what happens.

I've had so many opportunities to own the VLB 3D Blaster and always turn them down. I just don't know what to do with the damn things. It just seems like there isn't enough software to make it worthwhile, and I always seem to be short a VLB slot

Usually I have 2 VLB slots filled with disk controller and VGA. Now that I have an EISA board you would think a slot would now be free since I have an EISA SCSI controller...but sadly my current board has a single VLB slot.

Echanged the full lenght Elsa Winner 2000 gfx card for a Diamond 64 DRAM VLB card.
The Elsa card was very slow in DOS because if the VRAM and the image quality it produced in DOS wasn't great either.
The Diamond card gives 8.3fps in pcplayer benchmark with univbe loaded which is pretty nice I think and the card is dated from 1995 according to the ROM BIOS sticker on it which must make it one of the last VLB gfx boards made 😀

That's a S3 864 card, right? I actually found ET4000 W32p to be faster in DOS than a S3 968 that I had long ago.

Yep, I would use my Hercules Dynamite ET4000W32P 2mb it it weren't that it doesn't produce as sharp picture as the Diamond card and it only give about 0.5fps extra when doing a pcplayer benchmark

8.3 is already very fast for SiS 431 at 33 MHz. I doubt it could go much faster (> 9 FPS) with any video card unless you wind up the FSB. Nice work!

I have a Hercules Graphite DRAM that uses the Trio64 (S3 764) chipset. It's basically an integrated and enhanced version of the 864. I found this card to be quite a lot slower than the W32P in real world use.

🤣 look at how bent that poor Ensoniq card is! Maybe after time it'll return to it's natural shape....

Do you know why some cards get out of shape? I've just come across my first. It's a 3dfx voodoo5500 PCI card for a PC (and not a Mac). It's not as badly warped as Amigaz's Ensoniq sound card, but nevertheless, there's a noticeable bend in it. The card appears to function OK, but visually on screen, the image has a very faint "wobbly" look about it. (I guess this could be some kind of interference - indicative perhaps to these specific cards?)

If you're on a CRT, I've seen "wobbling" caused by the VGA cable being wrapped around the AC power cable. It can also be caused by other electrical devices on the same circuit as the PC that are "dirty" in their power use. Electric motors for ex.

As for how a card gets bent, well I'd have to say it's probably caused by how it was stored.

I've seen this kind of wobbly picture on two of my (now dead) Voodoo 5 cards. It only occurred in 3D mode, so I figured it had something to do with SLI and the method the card uses to weave the output of the two chips together.
