Where do your legs go 🤣

I dont have legs. You think you're funny now?

Actually, The 486 on the desk, and two computers under the desk are not normally there. I swap them out as needed so I usually have my laptop on the desk where the 486 is, and one computer on the right on the floor and one on the left.

I do have legs. I hope that wasnt an offensive joke.

Here's my not so little retro computing space. The 486 VLB PCs are rem0ved for some work, but that little beige thin client is a 5x86 133 too. I'm planning to give it a CD rom drive at some point.

To the side of the monitor are a Roland SC-155 and an MT-100. The hardmpu along with the MT100 were 100% worth it for classic westwood games 😀 I only had the SB 2.0's OPL2 back in the day, but I can tell that a few of these tracks were composed with Roland's stuff first.

At this point, the 386DX 40 on the top sees the most use (also ergh, its green power LED has just broken, I wonder why?) but there's a Tualatin w/V5 5500 and a Pentium w/Voodoo 1 in the stack. At some point I'll need to try to remove the redundacy.

These are just the built up PCs though, I have a few 386s, 486s and pentiums in parts. Rescuing old hardware has worked out too well 😒 For instance, my plan was to have ONE 286/386sx, now I have 3 of them.

Oh wow, I used to have that exact same model Dell 17" Trinitron CRT! My Dad got me one for free from work when the office where he worked upgraded to TFT monitors. Excellent picture quality. And there was just something incredibly satisfying about navigating the OSD menu with those wonderfully squishy arrow buttons and selecting "degauss". ☺️

I think I passed it on to my brother when I bought my first TFT monitor. And later it collected dust for awhile when he got a TFT monitor as well. Eventually we got rid of it.

It's the Dell D1025HE, a Trinitron tube that's really a rebranded Nokia 447F. I picked one of these up in 2001-ish as a side monitor for about £50 when I heard it had really good specs (1280x960 @ 85hz wow!) and were selling fairly cheaply. Eventually I sold it to a friend and he used it for a while.

I don't know what happened to it after that but this was sitting outside of the electronics recycling in the same town in 2017, so I had to pick it up and lugged it home on foot. That certainly reminded me how much CRTs weigh 😁 . It seems to work without issue, having it back again is pretty great since they weren't really common monitors even back in the day.

An older thread so apologies for bumping, but I just had to say what a fantastic collection you have there!

Somebody was bitten by the bug harder than even I was!! That makes me feel lots better! 😊 👍

So apart from my retro computing corner I showed here some time ago, I would like to share with you my other computing corner ( in the same room), with newly built Ryzen7/RX5700XT setup, now also my pandemic lockdown home office. I call it valid due to the keyboard 😀

"Temporary" battle-room as of right now 🤣

Room isn't even finished yet... but I had to put all the stuff inside... still need to decide for the final room setup. That's why there are no shelves yet and all the different desks will be replaced...

vHoOlunm.jpg

Not much to comment but still...

1st photo:
Left desk - my main everyday setup (HP Elitebook 840 G3, i5 6200U, 16GB, 500GB SSD), connected to AOC 34" Ultrawide 3440x1440 and Logitech Z-2100 speakers.
Right desk - Antec 182 with AMD Phenom II X6 1055, 8GB, 240GB SSD, GTX 660Ti, Audigy), connected to Samsung 30" 2560x1600 and Logitech X-220 speakers.

2nd photo:
Large desk - CRT Sony 15", Samsung 940 and LG M228VA - currently testing Voodoo cards (around 20 on the table) with: Enlight case, 6BXC + P2-450, 256MB, SCSI IBM 9GB HDD, Teac CD-ROM IDE, SB128 PCI... IBM keyboard and Logitech Pilot mouse and Windows 2000 😀

3rd photo:
Main test desk with Samsung 153v 15" LCD, Zoltrix passive speakers, 1x AT PSU, ATX 550W + ATX 650W on the right side also Samsung 757NF DiamondTron 17" CRT for better testing of old cards.

Currently testing i7-4790K - might become my main desktop PC combo - if I'm not to lazy to switch the Phenom out - might also get the "new" case for it, Antec P280.

On the right side also CRT TV for consoles - currently only Sega Mega Drive + MegaCD connected.

All around are lots of boxes with old and newer stuff... need time to test everything 🤣

That's a nice spacious testing and battle room there!

Looking exactly as it should, many computers in various stages of testing.. could do with a few more crts of course 😁

How is that Momo steering wheel, is that the special edition well built one?

Just the way I like it 🤣 Two CRTs are enough at the moment - in the storage there are lots more of course...

The wheel is just Logitech Wingman Formula Force. It's not tested yet.

My most enjoyable gaming era is late 90's through to mid 2000's. I run games across Win XP/Win 7/Win10 systems.
Kinda have a workstation setup for different types of games and operating systems. It's quite flexible and works well.
Love cords and proudly show them. Went through the cordless everything phase I guess in the early 2000's and it made me really appreciate cords.
Oh, pink desk I stole from my daughter. Yes, I'm looking for something to cover it. haha

My modern PC gaming area is pretty boring (it's the work desk in my office), as is my console gaming area (it's just the TV in my living room), but I did set up a P133 with DOS 6.22 in the corner of my office. It can be slowed down to 486 or 386 speeds, so nearly any DOS game I'd want to play runs fine.

It's a bit of a Frankenstein's monster PC, as it is quite difficult to find older PC hardware here. I bought it piece by piece mostly on Yahoo Auctions and have been upgrading parts here and there as I stumble upon them (most notably replacing the AWE32 with a very nice ESS Audiodrive card). It's also got some modern stuff in there, such as a Compactflash IDE adapter, the excellent PCMIDI card, and the CVX4 parallel port COVOX clone (mostly for the early Sierra and Lucasarts games that have Tandy sound).

I was REALLY pressed for space in my office, since the only free wall is taken up by bookcases and a large metal rack holding my microcomputer collection. I had to get a little creative to get everything on this little printer stand and I finally got it just how I like it. I even have a little mousepad tray that swings out to the side for the mouse!

On top of the PC case is where I keep the documentation for whatever games I'm currently playing (currently, Ultima V) as well as an E Ink device that I bought specifically to take notes during RPGs so as to not waste paper.

On top of the MT-32 is my left speaker, a great little mixer (that I got specifically because some DOS games mute the soundcard LINE IN volume for some reason), and then a CD wallet to hold my DOS CD games.

I bought this desk recently - late 90's / early naughties era I'm guessing. Not great quality but solid enough and in very nice condition. I replaced the sun yellowed brown trim and re-laminated the edge of the keyboard tray. I also added some reinforcement under the desktop to better handle a CRT and I'm happy with the result - it's almost taken on an Atari arcade cabinet look I think.
