Can there be actual damage to the platters' ability to store magnetic data after long term exposure to magnets and magnetic fields?

Hmm, I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. An oscillating magnetic field will effectively de-Gauss the media, reorienting domains in a quasi random manner. Hard disks would suffer additional problems due to low level formatting information stored on the platters that would also be lost.

Note the stack of floppy drives under the left speaker 🤣 (and a few HDDs as well)

I hope they're shielded speakers 😵

What do you mean?

This place is usually a guaranteed laugh 😁

The speakers will mess up your (floppy) disks, but you probably already know that floppy disks are not supposed to be used as secured data storage.
I suppose if the disks end up becoming corrupted, you can still reformat them.

And don't worry about having made some silly mistake, we're all familiar with those 😵

Don't worry about that, they're empty 😀 (I don't use floppies at all,mostly CDs.)

Had some unshielded speakers next to the monitor for 1 day bitd. Imagine my surprise when i got really funky colours on my screen the next day. Since then i always keep stuff away from speakers and other magnetic fields. I also bought a new pair of speakers, shielded this time.

Here is mine, nice and messy. See if you can try and pick out some of the hardware in the photo. 🤣

I suspect there's a story with that PC. You must share with us some time, Tovarisch.

Yes, indeed even though it's a first revision (production date reports 1999) and I don't know if it's AG or shadow mask.

Right now running a resolution of 1024 by 768 @ 100Hz with a Viper 330 and the picture quality is pretty good.

From what I found the tubes are the same as in the mitsubishi diamond pro series. So you could probably find the mitsubishi version to find more detailed info.

Guys,

I've setup a SS7 build based on a K6 233, a MVP3 MoBo, a Viper v330 AGP, a Canopus Pure3D and a Matrox M3D.

I'm trying to run some benchmarks using Q2. Using 3DFX and PowerVR .dlls I've no problem (20 and 11 FPS). If I want to bench the Viper setting Default OpenGL in Q2 video settings, all I get is a white screen forcing to ctrl-alt-canc.

I'm using Win98SE and NVIDIA Riva 128 v3.37 drivers.

Are there incompatibilities between MVP3 and the AGP based Riva 128?

Hi guys, let's see if I can upload pictures from my phone... this is just one shelf in my shed. I am hoping to make some posts about some of my hardware. I have been too busy with life and similar unnecessary things, so the vintage computing has been set aside for too long. But not any more!

What in the hell? Does that top briefcase portable have a CD drive?

That's a bit of a technological mismatch...
