Welcome to he collectors club of ole computer crap 😁

You don't 😜

I like FS because of my 1st hand experience with them 😉
They don't use proprietary crap, they have NORMAL XP install media (no image crap and they provide install media unlike many other royalty oem's), use quality parts mostly (Gigabyte, MSI etc), their cases are usually good quality (especially their older stuff) and the design of their cases is usually solid (unlike many other royalty oem's that don't even bother providing a case that has proper airflow), don't ship underpowered power supplies and their shipped PSU's are of good quality.
When I strip any FS of it's parts, I usually keep the PSU that came with the system.

I came close to one because my mother gifted me her old machine, a FS, and I upgraded the heck outa it.
Also I found/was gifted other FS systems.
Having scrapped hundreds of systems, many oem's included, I found their hardware of better use then for instance Dell or Packard Hell.
Dell often use proprietary PSU and cases and PB and Compaq often have not-that-usefull cases (bad ventilation for one) that often have a single plug for the front panel, meaning another hurdle if you want to put in another motherboard.

Edit: I can't speak for their support though, I never had to use their support other than their website. The system I got from them is 8 years old and just refuses to die!
Personally I don't see why FS supposedly is a bad brand. It's definately one of the best ones from a hardware collector's view.

How about trying ATI? 😁

Sorry 🤣, couldn't resist 😜

So they are all running in AGP 1x mode?

Ati? nah...then It won't be "my old, first" PC anymore 😀

Yep, still all running in 1X mode 😕

Time to try an older driver maybe.....I'm currently using the latest one from www.nvidia.com

The latest driver for 10 year old graphics cards? I think it's better to use older drivers for older hardware as they are usually more compatible.

And how can you be so sure you didn't have AGP 1x on your old rig? Maybe running that rig at AGP 1x is how it was meant to be 😉
Anyway, is it really worth the trouble to try and fix this?

Edit:I did a quick google search and found nothing about someone not being able to run AGP 2x and have it stuck on AGP 1x.
I'd suggest you try a couple other programs to check if those also tell you AGP is running at 1x instead of 2x. Maybe the program you're using is wrong. Doesn't hurt to get a second opinion, right? 😉

And also select AGP 2x in your BIOS

Are GF2 class cards still being supported in the latest drivers? I would have thought they'd have been dropped a long time ago. I know the GF4MX was a freshening of GF2 tech and there were a lot of those around but even they're still only DX7 cards and nobody releases "serious" games that support DX7 anymore and even with all the GF2 and GF4MX cards nVidia sold over the years there surely can't be that many still in use as a primary or sole graphics card.

Edit: I just went to nVidia's driver download page and they don't list any drivers for anything older than GF4MX and those drivers are only for XP. None for any video card older than that and none for Windows versions before or after XP. You need to hunt down the last known version to support your card and OS and maybe it'll fix the issues you're having.

Yup, new drivers for much older hardware = trouble

Even if it works (even if the driver still ''supports'' the old card) it'll be optimized for the newer cards.

Did a little more searching and now I did find some info about a stuck AGP 1x.

Heres a couple links:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=7371622
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/148739-12 … uck-a7n266-mobo

Which ones of these have you tried and which ones not?

Here's the last GF2 drivers

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html

And this is the last for the 2MX if the link I followed is correct

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71_2.html

Surprising that the MX got a few more months of support than the GTS, Ultra and Ti.

Yes there are.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html
and search for "98SE". Theres also a couple for 2k but iirc there used to be even older ones available. Atleast I should still have a couple of those old driver disks somewhere...

Edit:Correction, they are WDM drivers?
Those drivers must be somewhere, I'll go look...

Edit2:Found something.

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
here you can select older cards like the Riva128 and Windows 95. The dates of those drivers seem pretty new though. Maybe thats just the year they uploaded that driver?

I found that through a google search and posted it already. On the page of still supported drivers the GF2 is no longer listed so the newest ones likely won't work.

GF2 driver for 98 😉 (atleast thats what NVIDIA told me 😜 )

Edit:woops, thats the GF2MX

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_71.84.html
This is GF2 for 98

Those are drivers I use, they are listed under the "legacy" category on nvidia's driver downloads

Think I'll try the old, crappy driver on the cd that came with the card from 2000 😁

Jeez, your first PC was a Pentium III? That just makes me feel *really* old..... mine was a 16MHz 286 with 1MB of RAM and a 20MB hard disk (ooooh! a hard disk!).

Still got the 286 board somewhere.....

Yep, I started out with a Commodore 64 in 1985-86, then I got an Amiga 500 in 1989-90 which I sold in 1994
I didn't own a computer again until I got the Fujitsu Siemens PIII machine

I guess you thought I was a teenager? lololol 😁

Did what I sort of sweared not to do with this machine...not to alter the config it had before my aunt bought it....
I have upgraded the CPU to a PIII 933mhz which is the fastest CPU this board can handle.

But I also found and installed a Creative Live Drive II which the machine use to have before I sold it 😀

I also solved the AGP speed issue...I manually updated the driver in the device manager to point to the driver in the latest VIA 4in1 package.
The Microsoft signed driver dated 1999 apparently only made my AGP port running at 1x

i have installed the Via 4in1 package but the VIA AGP ART driver apparently never installed (???!!)

I have an AT VIA693 board. Socket 370. Quite ok, but it does not handle properly FSB's bigger than 100. And it does not like ATI cards, my Radeons 7500 and 9250 were very slow on it. Put in a Gf2MX, and I have no problem, is working well.

Y2K box: AMD Athlon K75 (second generation slot A)@700, ASUS K7M motherboard, 256 MB SDRAM, ATI Radeon 7500+2xVoodoo2 in SLI, SB Live! 5.1, VIA USB 2.0 PCI card, 40 GB Seagate HDD.
WIP: external midi module based on NEC wavetable (Yamaha clone)

GF2MX cards seem to always be trouble free. I like em. They're cheap, widely available, relatively fast and consume very little power (which means they won't heat the inside of the case up as much)
