I'd rather have a K6-2 , because Pentium 2 processors tend to crash or generally produce errors with old DOS games. Other than that I think you've nailed it 😀
Why only 1GB HDD though?

I wanted a compactflash card so I could easily move files around, but it ended up not working as I'd hoped.
Still, it makes no sound and is pretty fast.

Had to make sure to disable swap under win98 though 😀
Later on I'll find an extremely quiet hdd to use in there.

Oops, forgot to answer this one.
The adapter is internal so I would have to take the card out every time.

It's easier to use a USB flash stick, another option would be booting linux using gPXE and dd'ing another disk image over.

I got one on it's way and the plan is to have a CF card internally and this one sticking out the back. I have a CF reader in my desktop so I can very quickly load software

That would work if the back was more accessible, as it is it would be easier to take the side of the case off every time. 😀
