I had enough frustration in my attempts to build THE perfect DOS-up-to-DX8 game machine; So I will split the loads;
I will keep my trusty socket370 AT mobo for DOS and early DX games, stuff it with a Voodoo Banshee to taste a bit of Glide eye candy, ISA soundcards (Yamaha SW20-PC + Gravis Ultrasound ACE, tested combination which never let me down) and a Vortex1 for some A3D.
Then, for real raw power, I will build another system:
Socket 462, underclocked Sempron 2400+, fastest AGP card I have+Voodoo2 SLI, good ole Sb Live!.
I will keep you updated, as soon as I have anything interesting to share.
Y2K box: AMD Athlon K75 (second generation slot A)@700, ASUS K7M motherboard, 256 MB SDRAM, ATI Radeon 7500+2xVoodoo2 in SLI, SB Live! 5.1, VIA USB 2.0 PCI card, 40 GB Seagate HDD.
WIP: external midi module based on NEC wavetable (Yamaha clone)
