Hello all - new member and long time lurker.

Just finished a 486 build. Jetway motherboard with 8k and 256k caches.
486/DX2-80, 32-meg RAM, Diamond Speedstar64 1-Meg Video Card, Soundblaster 16, 2-GB HDD, 8x CDROM, 3.5" & 5.25" Floppies.
Running DOS 6.22 and Win 3.11

With a few BIOS tweaks, i've been getting a score of 45.3 in 3DBENCH.

Nice to meet you all and good to be a member.
What do you think about my first 486 build (in many years)?

Rob

I'm using CTMouse and VIDE CD Rom Driver - trying to free up all of the lower memory I can, right now I have 616k and 59k available, so no problems running most early games.

Sorry about the poor quality of the pics, it was an old junk camera - but you get the idea. When I get a new camera later this week, i'll post a few better pics.

Welcome aboard 😀

That case is really neat, I have a very similar one for my oldest DOS machine.
Also pretty cool you stuck with a 8x CD-Rom ... sadly all the old ones I had left, died already forcing me to use "unauthentic" 40x drives.

It's a Jetway J-403 - not one I was familiar with, but it is in good working order and supports my processor with no problems at all.

Been having a blast (literally in DukeNukem 3D). I was a little rusty on the Autoexec.bat and Config.sys fine tuning points, but this site helped me a lot.
