I don't think there ever really was a high spec version of this Compaq. I'm not sure if yours has the same but mine has the Intel 815E chipset. It's possible that this issue is caused by the Trident video car I have installed but with the Audigy installed, I have to be careful with certain operations. If I play relatively complex MIDI music for awhile with a large sound font loaded, the computer will, after some time, appear to lock up. However, it will just be video; I can use the power button to properly trigger a normal shut down, I hear audible events, etc. However, video is frozen. The problem became somewhat less prevalent after disabling hardware acceleration for this card. I'm thinking a combination of less than stellar design on the video card combined with it competing against the audigy for bandwidth. The same problem has not been observed when I am, using the onboard video. Come to think of it, the second I get ahold of a converter box to let me output to TV using a VGA port, the Trident PCI card I have in my Compaq is GONE! The i81 embedded video really isn't half bad being used in a computer of this spec.
