Always wanted to do this but just had the time today to see how others did it.

I bought few coloured films (transparent coloured paper) used commonly here by the chinese to make those hanging lanterns for kids (called Tanglungs).

Just made a slight modification though. I wanted to separate the WSAD and arrow keys from the rest, and then some.

Also, I pasted the colour film directly behind the keyboard.

Used 4 colours in total.

Originally the whole keyboard has a white light, which I didn't cover at WSAD, Arrow keys and the rest of the keyboard where it's white. (These are the original light.)

Now that is sweet! Good job! Reminds me of the periodic table chart 😀

Heh, now that you mentioned it, it does look like a periodic table! 😁

The yellow was a bit obtrusive, so made a bit more adjustments :

Times have changed... If this was a retro keyboard the highlighted keys would be Q, A, I, O, P and SPACE. 😉

Ya, those keys were classically familiar.

In my main system, I'm using a Logitech keyboard - G115. You can change the colours displayed within the range of blue to red, and any palette in between. I tend to stick to the red light too.
