Lately I've been wanting to read some reviews and articles about old hardware. So I went looking for some magazine archives hopefully similar to PC Magazine or PC World.

Compute does reviews, publishes programs in the magazine, and lots of technical articles on hardware. Top notch stuff here. 1979-1994.

Archive.org has some other collections too.

Infoworld is similar but doesn't go back as far and isn't nearly as technical.

I don't see PCWorld anywhere. Maximum PC is too new 🤣.

There's also Computer Gaming World which goes back to the early '80s. PDFs are over at the CGW Museum.

Retromags.com has lots of old video game magazines.

Google Books has archived a lot of InfoWorld, PCWorld, Maximum PC and other magazines from years past.

Also, google books allows you to search keywords in all issues, which is mighty useful.

I remember I used to have a subscription to Compute's Gazette when I had a Commodore 64. A good magazine. I threw all those out when I got rid of the Commodore - something I sometimes regret

Wow! I was looking up some old Compute's Gazettes. That brought back some memories. I wonder if downloading that stuff constitutes a copyright violation? It's not like they are still around.........

Archive.org is totally legit AFAIK. There are a lot of archived ancient magazines on there. I also like to watch a Computer Chronicles episode every now and then.

Thanks for the replies here 😀

I started thinking about this - unless it is pure nostalgia, what would be the point in a dual socket 370 system when you could ge a single-processor Athlon tod o the same job
