I set this up today, having bought the board last year but never used. It's got agp 4x [no 3.3v support], 4 pci and 3 isa. Built in lan. The agp slot is a bit close to the first pci, and the last pci slot and first isa slot can't be used together, so if like me you use agp, then you have either 3 pci + 2 isa or 2 pci + 3 isa. Board takes ddr ram and it's s478.
I've set mine up with dos 6.22 and windows 98se. May add 2000 later on, and there's a second hard drive for linux/unix as I want this machine to cover quite a lot.
Cards:
agp: 3dlabs wildcat vp870, I'm mainly interested in games up to dx8.1, which this supports
pci: voodoo2 sli, case is well aerated but will keep an eye on temps
isa: so far just an sb16 clone with db50xg. Tested recently with hexen -warp 02 I had no hanging notes so far.
In this machine I'm getting nice sound, fm music and midi music in dos games run from 98se.
I noticed th bios has an option to disable the l1/l2 cache and I can confirm that works, at least with my qrg4es [engineering sample p4] although I can only get a multiplier from 15 to 21 on this board [the p4gax I had before went down to 8 I believe].
Booting takes a lot longer, so the disabling seems real so I checked with 3dbench. At 2.8ghz I get:
461.5 under dos with cache enabled
25.8 with it disabled
Running the slow-cpu version gives me 26.3 with cache disabled.
At 2.0ghz and disabled cache I get 23.0 using the fast-cpu version and 23.2 using the standard one. 435.1 with cache enabled.
So it's looking like it's around 486 speed with disabled cache, which is pretty much what I was after as Ive got a 386.
Being able to set the multiplier in that range of course is chocolate teapot territory ie. useless.
Hopefully I will get round to trying some other isa sound cards although my cpu has no -5v line.
